Interviews: Angel Rising

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Angel Rising, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I was inspired by my Youtube pseudo, Listenangel. I used it for almost 10 years for creating shred oriented guitar pieces, more than 100 on the channel. Slowly but safely my music evolved towards something more brutal, primal, far from the Heavy Metal spirit of the beginning. “Angel Rising” was born.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Like I said before, the Heavy Metal genre was not fit to contain the brutality I wanted to instill in my music, Death Metal was the perfect match even if we can always feel the heavy, old school thrash influences in the album, especially in the shreddy guitar solos.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Hermyth, M.Fox and I were old friends, Kevin Talley is the guest star of the band, we met on the internet, thanks to the success of my youtube channel in the early years (Listenangel).

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Hermyth: Parkway Drive

Mfox: Machine Head and I: Metallica

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I am of course inspired by the bands I worship, whether I want it or not, and also by the thematic of the end of times, apocalypse, war, death and all the despicable flaws of human nature, an endless source of inspiration!

6. Where was your last gig?

As a band we never performed together, individually we have performed hundreds of gigs in different metal bands in the past (thousands if you count Kevin in). Hermyth and I are thinking about it for the future of course, nothing planned yet.

7. Where would you like to act?

Performing is always fantastic, whatever the stage, no matter the audience (if not hostile) but the Velodrome stadium in Marseille would not be the worst place for our first gig :)

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

So many...Whitechapel...Architects...Dying Fetus...Decapitated, the list could go on for hours.

9. Whom not?

So many also lol but not in the metal scene. I really despise coldplay for example!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I don’t think so...high nervosity, excitement, adrenaline are part of the game. When it becomes unbearable I would suggest to take a deep breath and think about the extraordinary luck we have as musicians in a free country to be able to perform in front of an audience, playing the music we love...and if that’s not enough a big fucking beer will do the trick.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Megadeth. I know it’s a bit old but well...they are godlike.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well on the internet fans mainly ask for guitar tabs, nothing weird about that I guess. Can’t wait they ask for underwear or stuff like that.

13. What do you think of your fans?

What I appreciate the most in our fans, and it can be said for any metal fan I guess is that they know what they’re talking about, a lot are musicians, composers, members of the band, graphic designers etc...they are more colleagues, connoisseurs, than fans actually and we can really discuss music in a deep and enriching way.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is an insanely detailed man! And it made me discover genres and sub-genres, and amazing bands by extension, I had not a damned idea they existed! The metal scene is so overwhelmingly complex and talented!

15. Something add?

Thanks to « Breathing The Core » for supporting us, and all the other bands, medias like you make us exist, make our music alive...and that’s something !
