Interviews: Autocatalytica

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Avant-Garde/Djent/Progressive Metal band, Autocatalytica, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I was reading a book on Gestalt Therapy when I was like 18 and they used the word “Autocatalysis” and I was like “hey that’s a fuckin’ cool word, could do with some more syllables though” and Autocatalytica was born. An Autocatalytic chemical reaction is one where the catalyst is the element itself, so Autocatalytica loosely implies a self-creating entity or some shit.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Still haven’t shaken off my teenage angst apparently. Also playing things that are difficult is just so damn rewarding.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Sort of, I mean this is essentially a solo project right now, not sure if I know myself yet.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Not sure if I have a favourite, but Devin Townsend has been a kind of central metal idol of mine for most of my existence to date.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Books, improvised riffing.

6. Where was your last gig?

Some shitty DIY space in Brooklyn.

7. Where would you like to act?

Nowhere! Unless it’s some cool mega-tour I have to do no work to get onto.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Would love to play with Devin Townsend or Meshuggah.

9. Whom not?

Cardi B?

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

My band in high school used to all do jumping jacks and scream the ABC’s before a show, that was fun.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Metal-wise Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Claude Debussy and Bela Bartok.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A hug.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Love em!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great!
