Interviews: Back On Earth

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band, Back On Earth, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Clement: I found a box full of old toys in a shop in London and I noticed the words ‘Back on earth’ on one the packagings, and then I knew instantly that would fit perfectly for a band name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Clement: We started as a pop punk band because this was this genre that made me want to learn how to play guitar. I was listening to bands like MXPX, Blink 182 or Alkaline Trio and I could not imagine myself playing another type of music!

Adrien: I started learning how to play guitar with ‘Adam’s Song’ of Blink 182 and I was a fan of punk-rock/pop-punk. I was listening to bands like New Found Glory, Something Corporate, Fenix TX, Yellowcard, and the amazing soundtrack of American Pie 2

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Clement: Some of us knew each other because we used to run into each other attending pop punk shows. In Paris there are not a lot of alternative shows, so everyone seems to know everyone, it’s a pretty small ‘Scene’.

Gianni: I only knew Mehdi at first, who introduced me to Clement and Adrien, and they asked me if I wanted to join the band, and we all got along pretty well!

4. Each band member favorite band?

Clement: Mine would be The 1975 without hesitation !

Adrien: My favorite one is Yellowcard, i have so many memories listening to this band.(Adrien)

Gianni: It’s hard for me to choose one, but i’d say maybe Genesis.

Mehdi: That would be Jimmy Eat World, my emo phase never ended …

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Clement: It might sound a bit cliché but life in general, we’re all going through stuff and making music is a way for us to deal with some issues, writing melody is some kind of a cure.

Adrien: Writing often comes to me after listening to a melody or a guitar riff in a song.

Mehdi: We’re not always talking about ourselves actually in the lyrics, it sometimes can be set as a fiction story, creating characters, people we would like to be or hate to be.

6. Where was your last gig?

Mehdi: The last gig we did was in Paris at a venue called Le Bus Palladium ! We really miss playing shows, and we hope things will get back to normal soon. We still haven’t streamed a show but with the current situation, we’ll take the time to make this happen.

7. Where would you like to act?

Mehdi: I think we all dreamed of playing huge festivals such as Warped Tour in the US or Reading/Leeds in the UK ! The energy over there is incredible ! We ‘d also love to play Slam Dunk Festival, Adrien and I went there a couple years ago and it was crazy!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Mehdi: We’d love to have Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World on one of our songs. This would be such an honor to have such a talented artist that we’ve been listening to and who has inspired us when we were teenagers.

Adrien: Machine Gun Kelly or Yungblud we’re such fans of the songs they make and the universe they create.

9. Whom not?

I think the important thing is to share the same passion, so we’d be open to everyone who’d like our music.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Mehdi: Of course, there is always a moment before walking up on stage when you think,’what if i screw up, what if i don’t remember the lyrics’ and once you’re on stage usually it disappears. Being with the other members telling jokes and laughing about anything makes me forget about stage fright !

Gianni: It’s normal to have stage fright, even after playing dozen of gigs, I still have stage fright sometimes. The perfect solution is to gather with your bandmates and scream some non sense before going up on stage and set the stage on fire

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mehdi: In terms of making music we’ve always had a thing for The Dangerous Summer, AJ has such a way with words !

Clement: The 1975, when i think about when i first listen to their first EP with the song ‘Sex’ i fell in love instantly with their music, and when I see now how they evolved to the sound they have today it’s just brilliant, and I still feel the same about their music though it’s so different !

Adrien: At the moment, I’m really into the 2000’s pop-punk revival like Travis Mills new project ‘Girlfriends’ or Machine Gun Kelly who adds Trap influences.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Gianni: Some guy asked me to help him steal a mattress…

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are so amazing, some of them have been following us for 10 years and we still can’t believe this.

14. What do you think of our site?

We really like the website ! You can discover so many great bands from punk to metalcore and it has so many features it’s really nice!

15. Something add?

Thank you for reading this, thank you Breathing the Core for this interview and we have a lot of things coming so get ready! Everyone stay safe, wherever you are, we love you.
