Interviews: Sondag

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Sondag, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Hello everyone and thanks for this interview, I am Marcello from Søndag, nice to meet you guys! I must admit that I am very infatuated with Scandinavian languages, and therefore I took a cue from the Danish vocabulary for the band name: Søndag (Sunday). The reference to the day of the week wants to create a parallel between the day of the week when the plug is disconnected from everyday life, and our music, which (we hope) in its own way disconnects from the routine of the music we are used to listen.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

This is simply the music that we feel to write right now, there isn’t like a genre boundary in our songwriting workflow.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me, Riccardo Lovotti and Marco Benedetti, were friends since high schools. We had a band already until 2011, then we did take a break from music for a while and in 2014 we formed Søndag. Riccardo Demarosi (vocals and bass guitars) joined the band in the early days, and we suddenly became very close friends!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Deftones, Bring me the horizon, Joy division and Black stone cherry could really be the sum of our favourite bands!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

There isn’t a specific mechanism that triggers our creativity I am afraid... ideas just hit us in the most unpredictable moments. Just think that the riffs of ”Trendsetter” (our last single before Titans) came to me when i was driving back home late at night after work. In order to write them down, I had to pull over and ”sing” them on my smartphone recorder.. otherwise (since I’ve got a really bad memory) they would have simply fade away after a few minutes. After that ”moment of inspiration” usually me and Riccardo meet at his place to write down all the stuff on a pro tools session in order to purpose it to the rest of the band at the rehearsals.

6. Where was your last gig?

August 2019, Bykers festival in Bergamo.

7. Where would you like to perform?

I speak for myself, I’d really love to play at Wacken open air.. that would be really a dream come true!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Well, be the opening act for bands like Deftones, Meshuggah or Bring me the horizon would be another dream come true 😊

9. Whom not?

Any Italian neo-melodic famous singer hhahahaha!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Whoa, guys, every time I go on a stage I’m totally freezed like an ice cube. And I mean, EVERY single time it’s like that.. doesn’t matter if we play in front of 1 or 100 people. But after you start to play, everything else just fades out, leaving you in your personal trip, and the stage fright also goes away.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Back when I started listening to rock / metal, my idols were bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica. They both have inspired me to pick up an instrument and do my best to improve again and again. It’s something like 18 years now that I’m playing guitars, and I’ve never lost the passion.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Back in our UK tour in 2017, there was a Monday-show which had gone (for obvious reasons) really to s**t. The crowd was formed by two people, and one of them was a totally wasted lady which which asked us (shouting between every song, and even going directly on the stage) to play an entire foo fighters album.. nice uh?

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love every single one of them 😊

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a really nice site guys, congrats!

15. Something to add?
