Interviews: We The Plague

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Deathcore band, We The Plague, from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We put a lot of thought into the process of creating our band name, so it has a significant importance for us personally. In the end, we want everyone to interpret their own ‘plague’ in our band name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We’re all fans of heavier music, so the choice of the genre came naturally.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Lino (guitar), Tobi (guitar) and René (bass) have been together in a modern hardcore band before We, The Plague was formed. Mini (singer) was the singer of another band we used to play with, so we knew each other quite well.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Mini: Oceano

Lino: Fit For An Autopsy

René: Thy Art Is Murder

Tobi: Chelsea Grin

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Instrumentally we are mainly influenced by our heroes and by bands we are currently listening to. Lyrically the inspiration arises out of mundane world events. It is important to us not just to tell a story, but to convey a message.

6. Where was your last gig?

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to play a live gig yet. We, The Plague was formed in the beginning of 2020, our first gig would have been in april. But then Covid-19 came and ruined this plan.

7. Where would you like to act?

Surprisingly we have quite a few fans from the US, so a tour in the United States would be a dream come true. Japan would also be an awesome country to play shows in, because of their big deathcore scene.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We are planning to release new music at the end of this year and we have a fantastic feature for one of the songs. This secret is not going to be revealed till then though. Otherwise some singers we would love to have a feature with would be Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel, Tom Barber of Chelsea Grin or Billie Eilish.

9. Whom not?

We don’t want to drop any names and we would not preclude someone categorically. Still we would not want to feature with anyone who has racist or right-winged views.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

When you are playing your first gigs it is normal to be nervous and there will always be a tension before entering the stage, but as you gain more and more stage experience it is becoming more of a positive excitement. When it comes to tips for beginners: Be well prepared, which means: rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! Before the show starts it is advisable to warm-up your body and/or vocal chords. When you are not sure on what to do on stage, have a look at other bands stage performances.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mini’s vocals are mostly inspired by Tom Barber, formerly of Lorna Shore, now Chelsea Grin, and Dave Simmonich of Signs Of The Swarm. The inspiration for the music is a wild mix of bands we are listening to. The main influence probably is Chelsea Grin and currently bands like Within Destruction.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A few weeks ago a fan sent us a message on Instagram asking for instrumental versions of our songs for an evening of karaoke with his friends, which we thought was hilarious.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are incredibly thankful for anyone who is supporting us! The amount of interaction we get in the form of messages or comments is overwhelming. It is just an indescribable feeling that the music you wrote and put out there is listened to and liked by so many people.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think it’s an incredible thing that you guys are giving small underground bands the opportunity to be in the spotlight and to get the recognition they deserve to have, so thank you for that!

15. Something add?

Thank you for the interview and especially for the questions that we haven’t been asked a thousand times before! Stay safe everyone, and wear your goddamn masks so we can finally play our first live show!!
