Interviews: Windchimes

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Black Metal/Post-Hardcore band, Windchimes, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name Windchimes came from Gavin. When his grandmother died, who he was very close to, his family was given a set of memorial windchimes. He was curious as to why they would gift this to them, it just seemed very antique and random. He later found out many funeral homes give them to families saying that if they hear the chimes playing that it means their loved one is thinking about them, or are nearby. We thought there was something truly haunting yet romantic about that, felt like it was a perfect fit for what we want to do.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all enjoy a variety of different genres, so we wanted to combine some of our favorites and create something unique and listenable.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Gavin and Larry had known each other for awhile beforehand, and then Dillon and Jordan came into the picture later on in the process.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Gavin: Humanity's Last Breath, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, Deftones, Old Man's Child, Oathbreaker, Fear Factory, Xasthur, Basement, Dark Throne, Morbid Angel

Larry: Of all time definitely Listener, but right now I've been listening to Phoebe Bridgers and Deafheaven nonstop.

Dillon: It always kinda changes but currently it's Defeated Sanity and Ulcerate.

Jordan: Kaonashi, Letlive, Kublai khan, Fever 333

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Larry: Human emotions, I watch documentaries all the time to try to understand and capture emotions of suffering and misfortune of all different points of life, and my main goal is to express those same emotions through music

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig we played was a local show at Preserving Hardcore with Kaonashi and Downswing who were on their tour. It was incredible and absolutely packed. Would kill to experience that again.

7. Where would you like to play?

Honestly anywhere, I would love to experience touring when everything blows over.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think it would be cool to tour with Bather from Ohio, I think our sounds blend well and we've talked to them over Instagram, as well as one of our friends recently joined their band. But of course Kaonashi would be a fine pick as well.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Gavin: Absolutely, I feel like most of us have. I feel like I probably have it the worst but Larry does too. The way I learned to beat it was to just completely lose myself in the music and just perform as much as I can. This also helps the show become more entertaining as well. Larry does the same.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Last Ten Seconds Of Life, Jesus Piece, Deafheaven, Thou, Daughters, Oathbreaker, Cult Leader, Full of Hell.

11. What do you think of your fans?

Larry: They're awesome, they understand our sound is different, we put no boundaries on music and our writing, and I love it when people understand that. I love our fans

12. What do you think of our site?

We think it's great, it's always good to have sites like these to bring light to smaller bands like us!
