Interviews: Blackjack Love

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Blackjack Love from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Na it wasn’t planned. I’ve always struggled with naming bands. So I kind of give up trying & let the universe do its thing. I was in Vegas playing blackjack & some American bloke just kept shouting “Woo, yea, USA. I love blackjack”. I was hammered & thought it could be a cool name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

The genre chooses you, not the other way round. I think it’s just how you develop as a writer really, you kind of fall into what you enjoy writing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself (Azza) & Matt knew each other long before the band was made. Matt knew Nick too. None of us knew Sam, but you forget that we haven’t known each other that long really. Everything just clicked straight away.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Azza: either Queens of The Stone Age or Oasis. Brother

Sam: Led Zeppelin

Matt: The Who Brother

Nick: Foo Fighters

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life events. Shit going on in the world. Reading old stories or listening to people tell their stories. As for ideas, old music is a good source. I use a lot of open & weird tunings so that quite often generates a new motivation or idea.

6. Where was your last gig?

A place in Reading & I can’t remember the name of it. That’s bad ain’t it. It was a cracking show too. It was mainly acoustic acts & a couple of more chilled out bands. We was talking during it,, saying we was going to be so loud compared to everyone else. But we went down well. People were moving, grooving. It was good.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Wembley. The main stage at the O2. The Viper Room in LA would be cool, I saw The Eagles of Death Metal there years ago.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

The Black Keys. Jack White. Foo Fighters. Arctic Monkeys. The list could go on & on.

9. Whom not?

Olly Murs. Nicki Minaj.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

No none of us have. You get like pre-match jitters some times, but I think that rush is a good thing to kick you in to gear to go do what you do. Advice? A couple of beers beforehand never hurt anyone, just do what you do when you’re up there.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Probably Foo Fighters, Queens of The Stone Age, Oasis, Led Zeppelin & The Clash.  

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nadia from big brother asked if we wanted to go out for a drink after a gig once - we politely declined due to the fact that I was intoxicated with a few things and would've ended up with her I’m sure.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re the best. It wouldn’t be worth doing without them. They make it worthwhile.

14. What do you think of our site?

Yea it’s cool! We like the ‘behind the’ segments. Cool idea.
