Interviews: Hadal

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Goth Metal band, Hadal from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name Hadal is inspired by the concept of the oceanic abyss and our love for the mythology of H.P. Lovecraft. And the water element is always present in our lyrics.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

When I listened Nightfall (Candlemass, 1987) for the first time I knew that was the path to follow. Slow, dark, and evocative heavy music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Three of us played together in another band called So Cold, but me and Max have been friends for more than 20 years.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Here the list could be exceedingly long, I will summarise a little bit. Our most beloved band are My Dying Bride, Tiamat, Samael, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Swallow the Sun, Opeth, Novembre, Sentenced, Candlemass, Ahab, Anathema, and Black Sabbath.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We find inspiration in nature, in the dramatic landscapes of winter and fall. And in our emotions, melancholy is always present in our songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Unfortunately, we played our last gig one year ago. It was the celebration of our birthday, 10 years of Hadal. And then we started to work on new material before the damned Covid stopped every live activity.

7. Where would you like to act?

It should be great to play in every country of this world, we love to visit different places. I personally will love touring in Russia.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We will love to share the stage with Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. Alberto, our singer, remembers me some other bands as Kauan, Enslaved and Hamferd.

9. Whom not?

We don’t have a particular name; we respect everyone who express authentic and unique music. I am personally tired of cover bands. And trappers of course.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Well, we are not immune to that fright. Soundcheck is always upsetting me, the fear that something could not work. Maybe a cable, maybe the amp, maybe the battery of my bass. But we know a good remedy, a good pint of ale. Even better if it is a stout or a porter.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As I said before, in the 80s I have found great inspiration in Candlemass. In that period, I was also fascinated by Celtic Frost, particularly their masterpiece Into the Pandemonium. Then I expanded my visions with Paradise Lost, Tiamat and Moonspell.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The tracks of our fist demo in wav format. Dark Water was never released in CD, it is still available on our web site for a free download. But this guy asked for better quality files, and of course we have sent them.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a great respect of all the people that have the patience to listen to our songs.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a nice overview of the underground scene, particularly important to discover interesting new bands. We appreciate your dedication to extreme music.

15. Something add?

I would like to thank you for the opportunity of this interview. I truly hope you’ll enjoy our new album.
