Interviews: Baby Shakes

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Baby Shakes from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It’s from Little Richard’s version of “Whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on” specifically the chorus that goes “shake, baby shake.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s just the music that we all liked when we met and formed our band. We had similar taste in music and just wrote songs together that reflected songs we liked and our style evolved from that.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Judy and Claudia knew each other and jammed out a few times before trying to start a band. Mary was introduced by a mutual friend, the artist Avi Spivak who knew we were trying to start a band together. And same with Ryan, a mutual friend introduced us when we were looking for another drummer years later.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Mary: It's so hard to pick just one band, I love so many! Lately, I've been playing The Kinks and Chuck Berry on repeat

Claudia: My answer can change depending on the day but The Cars or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers right now.

Ryan: Radio Birdman

Judy: The Beatles and The Boys

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songs are having fun, doing what you want, being free and just having a release to express ourselves.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Tokyo, at the legendary club “Shelter” in Shimokitazawa.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Anywhere in Australia and Hawaii.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

We’ve been very lucky to play with many bands that we love over the years. It’s been a dream of ours to be able to play with The Go-Go’s, The Bangles, The Damned and Radio Birdman. 9. Whom not? Eric Clapton

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah, it happens sometimes especially at bigger shows with bigger audiences or at festivals. It helps to just relax, breathe and have fun. And if that doesn’t work there’s always tequila.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

First and foremost, Chuck Berry but also 77 punk including The Undertones, Buzzcocks, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers. Also, Tom Petty, Phil Seymour, the Go-Go’s and Slade just to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To autograph their chests and arms. Lol. It was cute.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love them and are eternally grateful to have a fanbase. They inspire us to keep going.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love that you’re promoting bands and spreading the good word about rock’n’roll. Thanks for having us!!!

15. Something to add?

We just had a release on the fabulous Dimple Discs label that is one 2 singles from the EP collaboration with Billy and Damian of the Undertones. So, look out for the follow up coming your way pretty soon, it’s just a catchy as the first and will knock your platform boots off!!! In the meantime, we’re writing some new songs of our own and hope to record and release an LP by the time this pandemic let’s up and it’s safe to tour again. We want to tour Australia for the first time, but we’ll also be going back to the U.K, Europe and Asia as soon as we can!!!
