Interviews: Ecclesia

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal band, Ecclesia from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Why did you want to play this genre?

Frater Arnhwald: not really. I joined because the project was interesting. I don’t care about specific genres. There are two type of music : the bad one, which has to be burnt, the good one, which has to be revered.

The Witchfinder General: indeed, we don't compose music according to what genre it will sound like. We write the music we, as fans, would like to hear, and put all our efforts and energy in it until the result gets 200% satisfying.

2. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The Witchfinder General: I knew some of the members. Some other were happy meetings after the adventure started.

3. Each band member favourite band?

The Witchfinder General: mine are, just to name a few, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Candlemass, Emperor.

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Frater Arnhwald: the Holy Spirit, of course.

The Witchfinder General: and a good bottle of French wine. Sometimes, abbey beer too.

5. Where was your last gig?

The Witchfinder General: in Paris, November 2018. A modest show in a modest venue with good bands.

6. Where would you like to act?

Frater Arnhwald: St Peter place.

The Witchfinder General: the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, France.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

The Witchfinder General: King Diamond, as far as I'm concerned. But also any interesting band or artist, there are tons of them.

8. Whom not?

The Witchfinder General: Arielle Dombasle.

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Frater Arnhwald: yes, but never as a singer. I’d say, work until you know you can’t work more, so when you go on stage, you know you did everything in your power to perform well. Ora et Labora, that is the secret.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Frater Arnhwald: for the band itself the Witchfinder General can be more precise. As far as I’m concerned, I’d name a couple of singers : Dio, Dickinson, Kiske, Halford, Carl Albert, and on the more extreme side Devin Townsend and Ihsahn.

The Witchfinder General: Ecclesia has obvious influences such as Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Cathedral but there are actually tens of different bands and artists that influenced us in the writing and recording process.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The Witchfinder General: I don't know. We've not had particularly weird demands so far.

12. What do you think of your fans?

Frater Arnhwald : we don’t see them so often at the holy mass...

13. What do you think of our site?

The Witchfinder General: to be perfectly honest, I don't know your site.

14. Something add?

The Witchfinder General: Deus Vult.
