Interviews: Immortal Guardian

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal/Progressive Metal band, Immortal Guardian from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

ZEMA - One day Gabriel and the boys were hanging out, and they just thought of a cool sounding band name, then literally, the words Immortal Guardian came together and it was the coolest. After going back and forth with the name, the themes of the songs resemble subjects that spoke more about immortality, subjects that would change people’s lives. So the sound of Immortal Guardian started to sound cooler and cooler.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

ZEMA - Initially it was because of how impressive the musicianship was, then noticing how impactful the melodies were, how contagious it was to feel all that energy, seeing everyone sing along to it. Power metal gets you more and more addicted to it as you listen. It’s hard to explain when you’re inserted in the scene, but for me, as a fan of all their sub-genres of metal, as I started singing, I had a Thrash Metal band, back in the day. I still am a big fan of heavier styles, but when I first heard Helloween and Judas Priest, and other power metal bands, that was it for me. I really wanted to make that music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

ZEMA - No, we basically met each other on Tinder… just kidding! LOL… we started talking on Facebook, then we started jamming together a few days later. By that time I used to live in Austin, TX. And the rest of the band lived in San Antonio. The guys knew my work with Outworld and we started sharing some material. Soon after we were playing shows together around Texas and recording the “Super Metal - edition Z".

4. Each band member favourite band?

ZEMA - Helloween and Sepultura.

GABRIEL - Symphony X and Iron Maiden.

JOSH - Incubus and Lamb of God.

JUSTIN - Korn and Slipknot.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

ZEMA - Real life events, real people that inspired us in our lives. Things that helped us see things differently. Moments and events that showed us a brighter side of things.

6. Where was your last gig?

ZEMA - In Brazil, performing with a whole Philharmonic Orchestra for 3 thousands of people. It was crazy to see that and then, 2 days later, we were in lockdown. Immortal Guardian’s last gig was during NAMM this last January 2020. That was certainly the most fun NAMM I’ve ever been.

7. Where would you like to act?

ZEMA - I am pretty sure, the whole band’s dream is to perform at the Wacken Open Air.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

ZEMA - I would love to have Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford perform a song with us in the band. It doesn’t hurt to dream.

9. Whom not?

ZEMA - It is hard to say, in my opinion, there’s nobody that I dislike so much that I wouldn’t perform with…

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

ZEMA - Oh yes, when I first started, I used to stutter, and it was really bad! The advice I always give is, look, at the foot at the first person in the first line, and do not look up. Focus on their foot and have some fun! LOL… jokes aside. There’s no fear that should overcome any of your dreams, the trick is to learn how to channel all the energy that gives you the fright, and send it back in double force towards the crowd, they will love you for that! Startup with friends, then move up to friends of friends, by your 3rd show, you will be killing!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

ZEMA - Queen, Iron Maiden, Halloween, Dream Theater, Beatles, Metallica, and many others.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

ZEMA - Some of those we can not describe in here… But what about a dick pic? That was pretty weird… but the one that was the weirdest at first, and quite risky, was when we played at the FUN FUN FUN Fest, opening for Judas Priest, and a fan of ours in a wheelchair, asked us to get him started in a crowd-surf! It actually turned out fine, that was actually pretty awesome! He did not get hurt after all and he surfed for quite a long time!

13. What do you think of your fans?

ZEMA - They’re pretty much the reason for our existence. If there wasn’t for them, we would be playing music in our own bedrooms by ourselves. But we feel very close to them, we talk to our fans a lot and we have been hit up with all kinds of questions and personal experiences, some of our songs being part of their lives. Just like the old songs we listened to and changed our lives as well. And this kind of feeling enriches our lives you know? In a way that nothing is worth more than making this music. This connection, this relationship, with our fans, is something we find fundamental in our lives. That’s what keeps us going. That is the reason why we wake up every morning.

14. What do you think of our site?

ZEMA - I really like the way you guys designed it, the right column With the music ready to be played, the way you guys designed the headlines, I love it! That’s a pretty cool design. Awesome website. You should take pride in it. I love the articles, the way you guys approach your content, this is awesome!

15. Something add?
