Interviews: Screams Of Syrens

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band, Screams Of Syrens from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name was actually a reprised name from a project our guitarists and drummer used years ago. They had never done anything with the project, and we all loved the name, so we decided that would be the one we use.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I have always been a metalhead, the first heavier bands I listened to were Metallica, Dio, and bands like those. Something about heavier music just speaks to me, and that has never changed. As I got older and music evolved, I got heavily into all the bands that were pushing boundaries and doing something different. When metalcore became a big deal, I fell in love with the sound. Being able to mix screaming and heavy breakdowns with big beautiful choruses, that had me extremely interested. After leaving a previous band, our guitarist, Alex, and I decided we were ready to dive into the genre. Best choice we have made!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Most of us did yes. Alex and I were in a band for 6 years together before forming SOS. Alex, Donald (guitarist), and Christian (drummer) have been friends since high school and have been in bands before. So we all had a great friendship before the band even started! The only member we didn’t know before was our bassist, Isaac. But the second he joined, it felt like we had known him forever. The literal perfect fit!

4. Each band member favourite band?

We all have very different music tastes, but one we are all in love with currently is Gojira. Those guys are insanely talented!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are all huge movie fans, and we draw a lot of inspiration from movies we have seen over the years. We love to write fantasy, we are not one of those bands that take from life experience. Not that it is a bad thing at all! We just like to bring our fans into another reality, basically like watching a movie. We treat our songs very much like that. It’s a way to escape into a good story.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last show we played was in early March, we were on tour and played our last show in Arizona at Club Red. It was an amazing show! Right after that, Covid-19 stopped all shows/tours. We miss it and can’t wait for it to all resume.

7. Where would you like to act?

We have plans of touring anywhere in the world that we can.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Really any of the greats that are around right now. A few would be Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, and Ice Nine Kills.

9. Whom not?

Probably not something like Justin Bieber.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think all of us have at one point, but we have been doing this for so long that it just is natural to be on stage at this point. A good way to beat it is to do it a lot. Your first time will always be the hardest, you don’t know what to expect and haven’t had any experience with it. So once you get past that initial hurdle, it’s just about repetition, like anything else!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Definitely Avenged Sevenfold, they have always been a big inspiration for us.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One of the weirder ones for me was when a fan asked me, after taking a picture, if she could have the shirt I was wearing. Definitely not something I was expecting! But, I had another one close by that I was going to change into anyway, so I figured what the hell!

13. What do you think of your fans?

I honestly can’t express in words how grateful we are for them. There is nothing in the world like being able to talk to them and hear how much the music you write means to them or has helped them through tough times. We have had people drive for hours just to come to see us when we were on tour, and that kinda dedication still blows my mind. We have the best fans in the world, and are forever grateful for them!

14. What do you think of our site?

We love it and are stoked to be featured on it!

15. Something add?

We just want to say thank you for having us do this interview, and a big thank you to everyone who supports us! We can’t wait to be back on the road again doing what we love!
