Interviews: VARMIA

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pagan Black Metal band, VARMIA from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It's very simple. The name of the band is the name of the historical region in northern Poland where we come from. I had in mind the idea of using it as a band name some time before the formation though. It sounds good and also fits our music well.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It was the other way round. I started to put more and more that kind of black metal elements to some other bands that I played in. It started to collide there so I formed Varmia to have the vessel to put this music out. It appeared that a lot of material just waited to be released that way.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

In the current line up no. But we've met each other during the band's activity anyway.

4. Each band member favourite band?

It changes every day but I can give you our favourites for today: Lasota - Dark Funeral Svarrge - Mastodon Alle - Pantera Piotr - Dissection

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Warmia: Our land. It's nature and tragic history are the endless inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

Olsztyn: The last one that wasn't cancelled was with Vader near our mutual home town.

7. Where would you like to act?

Any kind of club gig would be great right now.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Enslaved, Borknagar, Dark Funeral, Marduk, Wardruna, Emperor, Behemoth, mgla, Vader, Primordial, and so on.

9. Whom not?

Everything rap - related.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

No. When you don't pretend on stage then all you need to do is just hit it hard. Be one with the music and make it something more than just the sound.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mostly the old bands. Starting with Pink Floyd, ACDC, Rainbow, Queen through the usual Metallica, Slayer, Emperor, Darkthrone, Opeth, Dark Funeral, Marduk, Behemoth, Vader and so on. All these early doom bands as My Dying Bride, very early Anathema, Katatonia played a part also. Classical music is for sure an inspiration. Composers like Chopin, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev and Mozart. to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Where are we from when asked by the people from our country.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It's good to have people who appreciate our music. The feeling that you can affect someone's state of mind is one of its kind.

14. What do you think of our site?

Looks pro, however I'm not sure if we fit in there. But still really appreciate your interest.

15. Something add?

Thanks for the questions. Follow us as we are at the verge or releasing our 3rd album "bal Lada". It will be available on Spring 2021 via M-Theory Audio.
