Interviews: PLASTIC TEARS

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, PLASTIC TEARS from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Miqu: It’s kind of self-irony. When we started we looked really wild and some people saw us as posers or fake. So we thought if that would be true our tears would also be plastic. Another version is that it symbolizes a used condom.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Miqu: It’s nothing that we really planned or chose. We just make music that we like ourselves, and if others like too it’s a bonus. I suppose we kind of break genre boundaries. I think most people that like rock music might find something they like about us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Miqu: Not all of us have been in the band since the beginning, and there’s been lineup changes since we started. But from the current line-up we all knew each other more or less before joining the band.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Hard to pick only one, but here goes:

Eco - Alice Cooper

Juha - Aerosmith

Edu - Demolition 23

Andy - Hanoi Rocks

Miqu - Ramones

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Miqu: Can be almost anything, usually the ideas just come out of the blue. Or then something just comes up while strumming the guitar and one thing leads to another and pow - we have a new song. The songs can be funny, sad or have a message. But they almost always have a tongue-in-cheek attitude in them to say don’t take life too seriously and never give up.

6. Where was your last gig?

Miqu: Before COVID-19 started we just finished a European tour, but since that it’s been quiet on the gig front. However, at the end of the summer we managed to play a show at On The Rocks in Helsinki when the pandemic situation was fairly good and clubs were open. We’ have some really good gigs lined up for next summer, let’s hope we’ll be able to play those.

7. Where would you like to act?

Eco: At Whisky a Go Go club in Hollywood.

Miqu: Japan and South-America. Clubs and festivals all around the world!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Eco: Guns N’ Roses.

Miqu: Alice Cooper. The man’s a legend and has been making music since the 60’s and is still going strong. Gotta respect that.

9. Whom not?

Miqu: We’re ready to share the stage with any artist as long as they’re not assholes.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Eco: There’s too much of a hurry to think about stage fright. Keep yourself busy!

Miqu: I don’t usually have stage fright, just a healthy tension and excitement before getting up on stage. For beginners, don’t think, just do it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Miqu: Songwriting wise I’d say 70’s Alice Cooper, Stones and Bowie. Slade, Cheap Trick, New York Dolls, Social Distortion, CCR, Hanoi. Seems like the inspiration comes from older artists, but there are great new bands too.

Eco: Kings Of The Sun, Hanoi Rocks, Lords Of The New Church, Smack ... the list is long.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Miqu: In Germany there were people who asked if they could pay us more for the CD’s and merchandise we were selling, as, after seeing our show, they thought the merch was too cheap. It’s funny, cos usually it’s the other way around. But we still have this punk grassroots attitude that we don’t want to rip off anyone. I guess that’s why we are still poor...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Miqu: They are loyal, beautiful and incredible, we love them. Just wish there were more of them!

14. What do you think of our site?

Miqu: Seems really cool and like it’s made by people who love their music. New and smaller bands are getting coverage, we like that. The underground scene is always better and livelier than the mainstream, keep up the good work!

15. Something add?

Our new album Anthems For Misfits is out soon through Wormholedeath Records on CD and streaming platforms. Hopefully, it’ll also be available on vinyl later. Follow our social media pages to keep up with the band, stay safe and keep rocking!
