Interviews: War Criminal

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band, War Criminal from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name War Criminal came from our guitarist Michael, who saw the phrase and thought it would make a cool band name. Over three years later we like to think he was right.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to play Hardcore because we had all liked it for so long. We had all been part of the Maine scene for a while and it just made sense to do our part to contribute.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all knew each other one way or another well before the band had formed; three of us all grew up in the same town and we all met eventually through playing shows.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Some of our favorite bands include Every Time I Die, Type O Negative, No Zodiac, Outkast, Nile, and Life of Agony.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 6. Where was your last gig?

There’s no specific “influence” on our songwriting, but we all have such varied influences that all creep out during the writing process; lyricwise, especially regarding our new EP, we would say that topics such as life experiences, loss, and mental health are the majority of the subject matter.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in Connecticut with our friends Burden and Ratsmasher among others; it was a great time and were hopeful to be able to do it with them again soon.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to play all over the US and eventually Europe, but to give a singular answer we think it would be super cool to play This is Hardcore in Philadelphia.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There have been a couple of times where we were definitely more anxious prior to a show than usual, and honestly the best remedy is just taking a couple of deep breaths. Relax. Chances are if you’re willing to play your music in front of a crowd, you know you have something worth showing, so it will be fine.

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

Honestly, we would have to say collectively we’re inspired by Metallica, Type O Negative, Terror, Cruel Hand, and Hatebreed.

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our bassists phone number; we played a show with Whitechapel and this girl borderline stalked our bassist throughout the entire show cause she thought he was so cute.

11. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are honestly amazing; whether we’ve known you well before the bands formation or if you’re new, we love you all so much and are so thankful people connect with us.

12. What do you think of our site?

Your guys site is so awesome, it’s nice being able to scroll without being bombarded by ads or it being super buggy. Thank you for doing your part in keeping music alive especially during the pandemic.

13. Something add?

Thank you so much for the interview; y’all are awesome. Our new EP “God Failed Me” is out now on all streaming services, and hopefully we can make our way out to you guys sooner than later !
