Interviews: Asila

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band, Asila from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was tough finding a band name. Especially in English as most words have been used in some way or another. So we decided to go with a different language. While searching the Turkish word for pure came up – Asila. It sounded cool and resonated with us as music is pure to us.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Every member in the band grew up listening to metal or rock. Adrian grew up with Iron Maiden, Hana with Evanescence and Richard with Megadeth. It’s in our blood. It makes us feel alive and it feels right. It’s a language we know intimately. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Hana and Adrian went to school together. So they knew each other.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Adrian – Iron Maiden

Hana – Within Temptation

Richard - Amorphis

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Moments and events in life usually inspire music. Whether it be good or bad. But also working with awesome people can really inspire you and push you to do better and greater things.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played an acoustic gig at Viper Room in Los Angeles in 2020. The last full band gig was at Rumours Lounge in Johannesburg.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We’d love to perform as a full band at the Viper Room or Whiskey A GoGo

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

In a dream world it would be Evanescence and Within Temptation!

9. Whom not?

I think we’d love to play with any band and even any genre. You can always learn something from other musicians and being out of your comfort zone can make you grow.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all do. Richard has previously vomited from nervousness. Tequila usually helps. Also just sitting down and warming up gets you focused.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Probably just our favourite bands that we mentioned. But we’ve also been influenced by less heavy bands like Depeche Mode, Muse, Queen and some R’n’B like Aretha Franklin on the vocal side.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not really a weird thing, but a fan asked Richard to solo with his guitar behind his back. In the spur of the moment he tried, but just ended up smashing the guitar in his face white trying to get the guitar behind his head. Good times.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We’re really thankful for each and everyone one of our fans. These days, there is just so much music out there and it’s hard to connect with new music. When someone does take the time to listen and connects, it’s really special and means a lot to us.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s such an awesome site! I’ve never seen more metal sub-genres! It’s great to have websites and people that support heavier music and that try to spread the sound! It’s also well organised and super up to date!

Our latest single Hot Blooded Woman came out on Friday 26th ! It’s a rocking, powerful song about women empowerment! Check it out!
