Interviews: Evil Prevails

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Evil Prevails from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The quote ''Evil Prevails'' is from the movie Lord of War: They say, 'Evil prevails when good men fail to act.' What they oughta say is, 'Evil prevails.' I thought it was a very powerful quote that reflected the lyrics I was writing for the project. It's dark, brutal, nihilistic, just like our music.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It came naturally I guess. We do not try to sound a particular way. Our goal with Evil Prevails is to write heavy music with no filter or compromise and try to keep things interesting.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all grew up in the same scene. We all started going to shows at a young age, had bands in high school, shared the stage together, helped each other out. And well, at some point we ended up playing in the same band.

4. Each band member favourite band?

SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think that, as musicians, we always want to do better than our previous effort. That will to constantly challenge ourselves musically, push our craft to the next level. Make better music, write better lyrics. And in the end,create something special, unique, that will last.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was an outdoor music festival called ''Rot Fest'', in July 2019. Amazing festival, great staff, nice vibe, lots of good underground acts from all over Quebec and Ontario, some guy made love to a tree. It was a lot of fun!

7. Where would you like to act?

After a year in a global pandemic, even a kitchen show would be awesome haha. Just to hear live music, play in front of people, watch other bands play live... Man, I fucking miss live shows!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There's so many talented musicians out there that would be fun to work with, it's tough to pick one in particular. I guess it'd be very cool to do something with Igorrr. That dude is insane.

9. Whom not?

Anyone who's racist, homophobic, misogynistic, hateful. Fuck that noise.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Just imagine everybody in the room is dead.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We've certainly been inspired a lot by the Quebec metal scene and all the bands that would come into town during our high school years. Bands like Despised Icon, Cryptopsy, Martyr, Ion Dissonance, Neuraxis, Quo Vadis, Augury and Beneath the Massacre, to name a few. Not necessarily that the music we write nowadays with Evil Prevails sounds like those bands. But they definitely inspired us to start our own thing, make music, go on stage and be a part of the scene. 

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Stop watching him make love to a tree.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We're very grateful for anyone who takes time to listen to our music, support what we do and come see us play. We really appreciate it!
