Interviews: ILLUSORY

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal band, ILLUSORY from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

George: The band was formed back in the early 90s under the name IVORY TOWER. Due to a hiatus from ’96 until ’99, the name was trademarked by a German band. Then we decided to change the name to The Ivory Tower. When we signed a record deal for our first album we entirely changed the name to ILLUSORY, which seemed to be the name with the closest meaning to the metaphorical meaning of Ivory Tower.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

George: We grew up listening to Heavy Metal. That is the main reason we like to create this kind of music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

George: Yes, Dee (the singer) and I are friends since first grade. We started playing together in ’95, while the other current members came later in the band. Apart from Dee, me and Costas (the drummer) were friends about two years before he joined the band.

4. Each band member favourite band?

George: For me, Dee and Niki (the bassist) I can say that our favourite band is Iron Maiden. Costas’ favourite band is Queensryche, Greg’s (the other guitarist) is Pantera and Makis’ (the keyboardist) is Nightwish.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

George: Various things inspire us. Things that happen in our lives, historical themes, and things that happen in general and affect us.

6. Where was your last gig?

George: Our last gig was on September 7, 2019, in a festival in Inofyta, Greece, with the mighty Gus G, SixForNine, Vonavibe and Cellar Stone.

7. Where would you like to act?

George: At the moment we are focusing on good support or festival slots when concerts will be able to take place after the pandemic.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

George: We don’t have a certain focus on this. We like to perform and when we have that opportunity, we do it, even if this is with an enormous name in Metal, or with a smaller one.

9. Whom not?

George: I can’t think any. The only thing that is always considered is the similarity of our genre to other band(s) genre(s).

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

George: I don’t think that anyone of us has or ever had stage fright. We have performed a lot and the main tip is that gig by gig you’re getting over it. I literally comprehended this, while opening for Blue Oyster Cult back in 2006. Five thousand people in the venue and our energy was better than ever before. People give you the power to forget any form of stage fright, especially when their reaction is positive.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

George: Bands we grew up with, like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Queensryche, Savatage, Helloween, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and mainly the biggest part of 80’s metal and some hard rock bands like Thin Lizzy, Queen, Deep Purple, etc.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

George: Well… the weirdest thing so far was that a fan asked us to perform Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” during a gig in a club in Athens. He shouted for it lots of times during our playlist. During the encore, we jammed with members of the other bands we performed together and there it was… The song was performed and the fan left the club with a huge smile.

13. What do you think of your fans?

George: The fans are the boost for us! Without the fans, we wouldn’t be able to do anything! We met with people traveling from Germany to our homeland Greece, to see us perform live. Words cannot even begin to describe the feeling that night.

14. What do you think of our site?

George: It’s a great and well-organized website. In addition, you give space for underground acts to show their work to new people that may be added to their fan-base!

15. Something add?

George: Thank you very much for the opportunity to present ILLUSORY to your readers! Shine On!
