Interviews: SLIVERS

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, SLIVERS from USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I actually got the name for the band from one of my favorite Japanese bands, “Mejibray”, they have a song called “Sliver”. Also being a big fan of Magic the Gathering, there are these cool creature cards called Slivers that share a hive mind.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I’m still not even 100% sure what genre we fall under, but me and the rest of the guys grew up on a lot of early 2000s metalcore and jrock, and we just kind of tried to incorporate all of our influences into Slivers. What came out of those influences was dancy, synthy, screamy, breakdown metalcore type music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

So me and Ron actually met on craigslist back in like 2012 I think, I had just moved to Denver and I was trying to put a band together, and he responded to an ad I made. From there we just became best friends. Aero came around a few months later for the same reason, us trying to make a band. Which eventually we did end up making something back then called Miss Anthropy, but we were all young and didn’t quite have the right elements to make a band work. Tomas and Francisco I met back in 2015, I filled in for their previous band “Live Like Glass” on guitar which Aero had been playing with also. So I guess we have all known each other for a while we just weren’t all working on the right band together.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Kyle: Either My Chemical Romance or The GazettE

Ron: AFI

Aero: Bring Me The Horizon or Motley Crue

Tomas: HIM

Francisco: HIM or I the Mighty

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Actually, a lot of our lyrical content comes from movies, or video games. Celine, is about the Crow, I seem to write a bunch of songs about that movie actually. Lately we have been getting a lot of ideas from cyberpunk aesthetics, the matrix, stuff like that. So some of the new content deals heavily with the idea of living in a simulation.

6. Where was your last gig?

Slivers has been an idea for 3 years now, but it wasn’t until the end of last year we put together a whole band. So we haven’t played any shows yet, due to the pandemic and all that fun stuff.

7. Where would you like to act?

Do you mean play? I mean anywhere really, but I’d say the gothic theater is my favorite in Denver.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh jeez, I think it would be cool to do a feature with any Jrock band just because I feel like they are kind of an underrated music market that a lot of people miss out on. They definitely have some of the best current metalcore.

9. Whom not?

A day to remember haha I don’t know why but I just can’t get into them

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think everyone gets stage fright. I know that I get it before every show I’ve ever played, that’s actually what I love about playing shows. The adrenaline rush you get right before hitting the stage and the first 3-5 minutes of being on stage is always a huge rush and shock. I don’t think there's really a way to get around it… just don’t drink too much haha

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think what inspires our sound the most is bring me the horizon, the gazette, mejibray, afi, asking alexandria, some current pop and metal music. We all listen to a lot of different genres.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Aero: I had two kids bow down to me in a king soopers once Tomas: So when we were on tour with Live Like Glass we met some dude he was cool as fuck he liked our music, we hung out with him got drinks, and he told us we could stay at his place so we did. He had food and showered our whole crew as well, he was kinda weird, he had put in his head that he was joining the band and was gonna be a third guitarist, he made up his stage name like ours and came up with a makeup design that was like a fucking light bolt lol, so this guy basically lied about everything he told us. The house we stayed at wasn't even his so that whole night we were at one of his friends houses that didn't even know we were staying there lmao

13. What do you think of your fans?

Fans are the best! I mean there is no point in making music without ears to hear it.

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing the core seems like a rad place to discover new music and I love that you guys also allow artists to submit songs to your playlists. Overall I think you guys are fighting the good fight and getting new music in eager peoples ears.

15. Something you'd like to add?

Be on the lookout for more music this year from us. We just finished a single for a new song and we are gearing up to make some really interesting visual content to go with it. We are going to be asking for help from fans and getting more outside people involved in Slivers.
