Interviews: Caustic Casanova

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band, Caustic Casanova from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Francis and Michael (our original guitar player) came up with the name in college. They both like alliteration and thought the name sounded cool and would be memorable.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn't set out with a genre in mind - we just wanted to make eclectic and memorable heavy music. We don't abide by any rules when we write a song, we just try to make interesting and catchy metal-inspired heavy rock that we'd want to listen to. When Andrew Yonki joined the band in 2013 after our original guitar player Michael departed we became a bit heavier - a musical direction Francis and I had wanted to go in.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all went to The College of William and Mary and formed in college in 2005. Francis and Michael (the original guitar player) were freshmen hallmates and they found Stefanie from a Facebook search of people interested in drumming.

4. Each band member favourite band?

That is a tough question - and since it's just me (Stefanie) answering I'll just say that all of us have a particular fondness for Queens Of The Stone Age. Actually, I'll take a stab at this and they can yell at me later if my guess is wrong. Francis' favorite band is probably Rush or Melvins. Andrew's is probably Isis. I know he loves Jawbreaker a lot too. Jake's is probably Led Zeppelin, and mine is....probably QOTSA or Elder.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Francis always says he started playing bass and wanted to be in a band because of Rush's Permanent Waves and AC/DC's Back in Black. Anyone out there creating unique music that doesn't stick to pre-written rules is inspirational.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our two most recent gigs were in March 2020. March 1st at Cafe 611 in Frederick, MD with The Obsessed, Today Is The Day, and others // March 4th at Songbyrd in Washington, DC with A Deer A Horse and Venray. Two great shows!

7. Where would you like to act?

If the question is where would we like to tour, we'd love to finally get over to Europe! We were starting to make plans to tour Europe when the pandemic hit so unfortunately we had to put those plans on hold.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We'd love to tour with the Melvins!

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think all of us are pretty comfortable on stage but all of us have also been nervous from time to time - whether we're debuting a new song live or we're playing a show with a band we admire. It's really easy to overcome any sort of stage fright for me when the crowd is really digging what we're playing, so we always try to tune into that energy when it happens.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Very, very many, but a few I'll name are Rush, Melvins, QOTSA, Isis, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Clutch, Jawbox, Big Country, and Kyuss.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Interesting question, but I don't remember being asked for anything necessarily weird...yet.

12. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans and always enjoy talking to anyone at our shows and interacting with them via email or online too!

13. What do you think of our site?

Any site that features up-and-coming diy heavy music is pretty great in our book!

14. Something to add?

Stay tuned for our new record, hopefully out in the second half of 2021! This will be our second record for our amazing label Magnetic Eye Records. We can't wait for our first post-Pandemic live show!
