Interviews: Heedless Elegance

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Heedless Elegance from Hungary. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name of the band Heedless Elegance is kind of an inside joke of us, when we founded our band with Zsolt we always said when someone asked us how we are going to accomplish something or how we can get there where we want to be, in Hungarian language: “ hanyag eleganciával” which means: “ with heedless elegance”.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It is funny, because everyone in the band used to hate the “screaming, shouting, growling” music, but somehow we ended up here together. I remember for example in high school one of my friend wrote Parkway Drive to the blackboard and I immediately cleared it and said, these shouting musics are not music, only Metallica is the real music, and after 1 and a half year we ended up playing in a Parkway Drive tribute band together. That time I was a drummer, but slowly started to blink towards to the metal singing. Somehow each one of us ended up in this genre, I don’t know exactly why but maybe this is the beauty of it, life connected us in an unexpected way, maybe because of a reason.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

With Zsolt yes, and with a few previous members from the beginning of the band. Zsolt is my closest friend, I think we first met in 2009 or something, in the beginning I don’t really liked him, but after a few years we became best friends. We had a band called ‘Hangovers’ together, but we were beginners in how to run a band and everything around it so we weren’t successful. We went separate ways after high school, I moved to the U.K. for one year and when I came back Zsolt and I decided to try this “Band” thing one more time, but this time with full force. That is how Heedless Elegance was made. Albert, Matyi and Dani came to the band after 2 years and many line- up changes, but I can say the struggle was worth it for them!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Let's see how I know them! I hope they won’t be mad if I’m wrong. For Zsolt it’s Iron Maiden for sure, Dani loves Avenged Sevenfold, Albert is a hard one because he knows and listens to the most music but to pick one Killswitch Engage, and for Matyi it’s Slash. For me it is System of a Down.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think it could come from anything, just walking down the street and a thought comes to your mind or a topic that you are interested in gives you new perspectives because you approached the question from a different way, so really anything, the only thing is you need to pay attention on these things and you will find valuable informations. Personally these days I got my inspirations from video games, movies and books.

6. Where was your last gig?

Unfortunately because of the situation around the world and the serious regulations in Hungary we only had 3 concerts last year one in January one in September and one in October, which was the last one in Debrecen in a little shitty hole. Our last show should have been the debut gig for our new album ‘LIBRA’, but we still need to wait for it because of the regulations in our country. We hope in May we can have the event.

7. Where would you like to perform?

It is a hard question, because there are tons of places around the world where I would love to play so if you let me I would divide this question into two parts. My childhood dream: Nova Rock and Sziget Festival main stages, because when I was younger and I started to play music I always visited these two festivals, I love them so much and they are a huge part of my story, and I always said to myself when I was watching a concert in each of these two places that ”how amazing could it be to play these stages”. My dreams now: I think it would be Wacken. As a metal musician I think that is the top where you can play.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

My top 3 these days are Parkway Drive, Twenty One Pilots and Iron Maiden.

9. Whom not?

I think at the moment I’m not on that level of knowledge of anyone around the world to decide not to perform with.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think all of us had in the beginning, maybe some of us still has, for example me 10 minutes before of the show I feel a bit of nervousness, I think it is healthy to feel it a little, but after the first note of the show it disappears. I think you need to accept the situation that no matter what you need to show what you got, and realise that those people who is out there are there to see you, you are the reason why they are standing there, so probably they will like whatever you will do, and you need to accept that there will always be haters who will chew on your mistakes, but that’s the part of this business as well. The only thing what you can do is to practice as much as you can, so you are well insured that you will do the best you can, and it will give you a comforting feeling.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I started my “career” with Green Day when I was a child, their CD was the first I’ve ever gotten, after that step by step I started to fall into the heavier stuffs, first Metallica, than my all time favourite band System Of a Down and after all the metalcore deathcore stuffs. I think I can feel the impact of these bands in my vision of music, but these days my influences are coming from other genres and arts. For example mostly these days I’m only listening to the songs of Twenty One Pilots or Ennio Morricone and some electronic musics like Drum and Bass or Goa.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t remember any weird one, but a heart-warming I do. There was a kid from California who wrote to us to say thank you because he has Autism and our music helps him a lot and he asked me to sing happy birthday to him. The whole band was touched by this happening.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are glad and honoured if there is someone who listens to our music, they are the coolest mother fuckers. We hope we will be on tour soon so we can have a closer relationship if you guys out there!

14. What do you think of our site?

I’m a rookie on your site, but I will check it out deeper. You gave me a chance to speak, and you share metal, so I’m glad that you exist.
