Interviews: SCHYSMA

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, SCHYSMA from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Actually, we planned it, because a schism represents a division, in whichever scope one wishes to consider. In biology, schism is defined as cellular division, which is the origin of life. But not all cells are benign: there are cancerous cells which can lead to death. And yet, their process is the same. A schism. From here, the dualism that the band seeks to represent: the group is singular and yet it is made up of radically different elements owing to diverse influences, styles and musical tastes.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn't choose this particular genre, it's the result of the mix of all our different influences, and it allows us to tell complicated stories with the lyrics.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Back in 2011 Martina (keyboards) decided to found a band; she already knew Vladimiro (guitar) and let him join the band; at the same time Luca (drums) joined the band after answering an ad. Fabrizio (bass) and Eliana (vocals), who both knew Martina, joined the band only in 2018 replacing former members.

4. Each band member favourite band?

As we told before, we have very different musical tastes. Vladimiro and Luca are the prog soul of the band, they like Extreme and Dream Theater; Martina and Fabrizio sustain the band with their electronic and metal tastes, so they like bands like Rammstein and Combichrist; Eliana has a more melodic taste, she loves U2 and operas.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The challenge of finding new sounds.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Ilfracombe, UK, the last gig of a UK mini-tour that lasted 10 days.

7. Where would you like to act?

Our dream would be to play at Wacken Open Air, but we won't dislike a tour in South America, where we always had a good following. We were planning some gigs in Argentina, Eliana's native country, but unfortunately Covid-19 pandemic stopped us. We hope to remedy soon.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

This is so hard! We can't choose one, because once again we have so many different influences. We would need to do at least five featurings to be happy hahaha! If we must choose one, considering Eliana's voice, it would be interesting a featuring with a band with a very different vocal range, like Till Lindemann and Rammstein.

9. Whom not?

If we feel the other band or artist could give us a chance to improve, learn and get better, we wouldn't refuse any featuring: in this case every one could be a new occasion to enrich our music and experience.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We are always a little nervous before going on stage, but then we remember we are there for the audience, to give them a great experience, and this is a great motivation. The most useful tip for us is to remember that this kind of fright is sane and positive, it means you care about what you're doing and you care about the audience's feeling; once the first song starts, every fear disappears.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For this album we were inspired more by a book than by bands: “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde is the main source for the lyrics of the whole album.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have experienced very funny episodes. For example, we were once playing in Czech Republic and one completely drunk fan came under the stage during the show asking us for a System of a Down cover song. Another time a fan asked Martina to make an autograph on his nipple!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Lovable insane fans, we love them all!

14. What do you think of our site?

A very nice websites that help local bands. Nice job! Keep rockin'.
