Interviews: Cancel The Transmission

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band,
Cancel The Transmission from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name came from another band that our lead guitarist Josh was briefly in before this that had the name ‘Cancel The Transmission’. The band never materialised and disbanded after only one show. So, several years later when Josh started this band, he carried the name over and Cancel The Transmission as we know it was born.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Each of us have always been huge rock fans and all have different roots from within the rock genre. Our vocalist Justin comes from more of a pop rock background, while Josh has always been a big fan of 80’s hard rock. Carl (bass) and Ash (drums), also both bring their own unique tastes to the fold with the heavier side of the genre. We combine all these individual influences into our music to create a unique amalgamation of styles.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Josh and Justin vaguely knew each other before the band formed through the local music scene in Caerphilly at the time, although the pair had only really ever spoke in passing. Justin was in another band at the time and Josh was still in school. A couple years after Justin’s previous band broke up, Josh and Justin decided to start Cancel The Transmission together. During the bands history we’ve had a few rhythm section changes. Carl has been in the band for around two years now and Ash has just recently joined us.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Josh - Guns N’ Roses

Justin - There's just too many to choose from, sorry to be that guy! This band is pretty cool though

Carl - Black Stone Cherry

Ash - Killswitch Engage

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Musically, the inspiration for our songs usually stems from a guitar riff or chord progression. I think the real inspiration though comes from the love that the fans show us when they listen to our music. That makes us want to keep writing more tunes.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The Station in Cannock just before COVID hit.

7. Where would you like to play?

We would love to play in as many different places as we can! Our goal is to get our music heard far and wide so playing all over the country is something that we love doing. We would also love to tour outside of the UK in the near future in countries such as Germany, France, Norway, Finland and the US.

8. Who would you like to support?

There are so many artists that we would love to support. Three bands that we have always wanted to support though would be The Darkness, The Struts and Guns N’ Roses.

9. Who not?

We would love to open for any artist bigger than ourselves so that we can get exposed to their fanbase and hopefully gain some new fans. Maybe we’d have to draw the line at supporting Justin Bieber though...

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all feel a sense of adrenaline and excitement / nervous energy before going on stage and the moment you lose that it’s time to call it a day. That’s what makes it exciting and what playing live is all about. Our tips for beginners suffering with stage fright would be to remember that in all likelihood, the people who are watching you play are there to see YOU and they wouldn’t be there if they weren’t interested in what you do. Take confidence from that and enjoy the time you have up there. The nerves will usually subside after a couple of songs and then you’re good to go!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Our tastes are pretty eclectic so there are definitely a lot of artists, some even outside of the rock genre that have had an influence on us. Our main influences however include, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, The Darkness, and Alter Bridge just to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We once played a show where a bunch of middle-aged women asked us if we had calendars with topless photos of us in for sale. That was pretty odd... Although it wasn’t something a fan asked for, I’d have to say our weirdest experience was when a fan added one of us on Facebook and proceeded to send friend requests to his entire friends list. Definitely an experience...

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re amazing! We know every band says that but they really are the reason that we do this. When they share our music, post photos of them wearing our merch, and turn up to see us play live it makes it all worth it.

14. What do you think of our site?

We’ve checked it out and it’s a great site focussed on promoting rising bands from all over the world across a multitude of different genres. Keep up the great job guys!

15. Something to add?

We just want to thank everyone for the support they have showed and continue to show us, it means the world to us. We also want to say make sure you give our new single ‘Rise Again’ a listen on the 30th Aprilavailable on all major streaming services. You can also pre-save the song to your Spotify library by following the link below.
