Interviews: Antidote

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band, Antidote from the USA. All the questions have been answered by Rob Nuzzio. Check out the interview!

1. Where did you get the idea for your band name?

I got the idea for the name Antidote from my love of the ‘Mad Dr.’ genre of classic old horror films like ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’. Every time some mad Dr. pushed beyond the limits of human morality, an Antidote was always called for. So I knew Antidote as a remedy to counteract any poison, or drug, but I applied it in terms of a ‘societal fix’ for all the real or imagined problems regarding politics and life in the US as a young person in early 1980s America, as in ‘This country needs an Antidote'.

2. Why did you decide to play hardcore music?

I didn't decide to exactly, it just sort of morphed into that. ‘Hardcore' wasn't really around as a genre of punk yet when I started.

3. Did you all know each other before the band was formed?

Yes we did.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Well, from my own memory I can say that I personally had lots of favorite bands but if were talking hardcore bands my favorites back then were Black Flag, Circle Jerks, & Government Issue.

5. Who or what inspires you to write your songs?

Problems I face, politics, anger, betrayals, stupid people.

6. Where was your last gig?

On my couch.

7. Has any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes. Imagine the entire place full of people are standing there in their underwear while you're playing. That doesn't work, but at least it's fun!

8. What bands have inspired you the most?

For inspiration, none. What inspires me is money, women, and having a good time all the time. Loud guitars are cool too, once you learn how to handle one properly.

9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you?

I think that if you don't know me, I sort of project an angry ‘don't f*** with me’ kind of aura…that came from growing up in NY and personal hardships. So people usually don't ask me anything too weird, unless they get to know me. Then, the weirdness comes. Lol

10. What do you think of your fanbase?

I'm kind of shocked to realize just how dedicated, friendly, and knowledgeable some of the friends of the band really are. I don't like to use the word ‘fans’, Hc/Punk people really are more like friends to me when I meet them.

11. Anything you’d like to add to end this interview?

Yeah. I'm really loving coming back out of semi -retirement from playing live music, and getting involved in ANTIDOTE again. We’re looking forward to getting out there and playing shows everywhere we're invited. And: If you're planning on coming out to see us, make sure it's us... the original, OG ANTIDOTE with Nunzio and Louie that you're coming out to see! Beware of imposters!
