Interviews: Apogean

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Technical Death Metal band,
Apogean from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The meaning behind the name is the furthest point in orbit. The idea came from our interest in space horror and both our lyrics and music have influences from those sorts of themes.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Our band members all come from a more progressive metal background and we felt like we wanted to push things into a darker heavier realm. This was a combination of wanting to push our musical boundaries and felt like a natural progression. We're also big fans of a lot of bands in this genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Rob and Dex played in 2 bands before (Clear Skies and AfterWake) Dex also knew Gabe from his other project Yurei.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dexter - Soreption

Rob - Entheos

Jacob: Between the Buried and Me

Gabriel - Fallujah

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Gabriel: I try to let the songs write themselves, or am inspired by a riff or a synth idea. I try to not let my brain get in the way or I don't like the result lol.

Dexter: I usually start with a riff and expand on the idea. I also like to have a song write itself and I try not to think too much. Almost like a state of meditation.

6. Where was your last gig?

We still haven't played a gig

7. Where would you like to act?

Brazil!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Inferi, Meshuggah and Soreption

9. Whom not?

Nickelback

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Dexter: It's good to start small and work your way up to bigger shows over time. Gabriel: I still suffer from stage fright. Find the right group of people that you share chemistry with on and off stage. Also just trying to imagine yourself killing it up there and you probably will. Don't let your head get in the way.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dexter: The Zenith Passage. To me, they picked up where Planetary Duality by The Faceless dropped off. Gabriel: Fallujah I'd have to say, I just have always loved how emotionally dense their music is.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

This band is fairly new so I haven't had any weird questions yet but we looking to receiving them. haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love every single one of them! there's the best and we couldn't do this without them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Yeah, it's a great site. We love what you're doing and keep up the good work guys!

15. Something to add?

Thank you so much for taking the time to feature our new EP Into Madness and to interview us. We really appreciate the support!
