Interviews: Howlin May Queen

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Howlin May Queen from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was pretty easy I guess, the name came out by itself; one of our first choice when talking about blues was Howlin Wolf, his moaning sound is mesmerizing and then one day one of us came across the ancient figure of the May Queen from Northern European culture, a bright and dark dark figure; I believe you can guess how it went...

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn’t choose it actually, we had our first jam a few years back in London when we realized there was a deep bluesy feeling in the room and so we started everything from that, we tried to spice things up with lots of different shades: folk, psychedelia etc. And now we have our first album ready to go.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, Simon Hurts was looking for the right musicians to put a new project together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

There are many great bands that it will be just impossible to answer this question without regretting the answer right away. Let's say that everything that sounds good is what we like!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

That's a tough one! we wouldn’t say that there’s something or someone necessarily but more a vibe or a feeling that crosses our path, it could be everything actually, a color, a person, a place but definitely we’d say we work with our personal experiences first...

6. Where was your last gig?

Unfortunately, it was quite a long time ago due to the world pandemic, anyway, it was at the Black Heart in Camden, London before we moved to the countryside to record the new album "Tapes from the white Ballroom.

7. Where would you like to act?

As for now, we just wanna be able to get back on stage so bad we can't describe!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Probably howlin wolf would be a nice jam :) or John lee hooker.

9. Whom not?

No one, in particular, we have been always lucky enough to meet amazing musicians and people on our path

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

No pain no gain you know, without a bit of spice before you walk on stage, probably it would not be worth it. Embrace your feelings.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have very different influences but anyway: Howlin wolf, muddy waters, Elmore James, John lee hooker, etc then all the 60’ and 70’ artists. Ps: Daniel loves Janis above.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We're saving that for later aha

13. What do you think of your fans?

What can we say, they are the spark that lights the flame, you know; we had the chance to meet very beautiful and different people on our road and we can’t wait to meet them again.

14. What do you think of our site?

We had a chance to sit and read thru it enjoying the great content. Definitely, a very nice place to stop by!

15. Something to add?

Yes, make sure you check our socials and spotify out, as we are gonna release a limited run vinyl for the album "Tapes from the white Ballroom"!
