Interviews: KILL CITY

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band, KILL CITY from Ecuador. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Hi Guys ! Thanks for the interview. There’s a funny story about the bands name actually… Two of the members (Xavier and Juan) had released a song with a solo project called ¨Sore Shoulderblades¨. For a while we thought about using that same name, but then when talking with other people and telling them our name would Sore Shoulderblades, they would go ¨that sounds like Head and Shoulders¨ or ¨its really hard to pronounce¨. So we made the decision not to go with that. We threw around several options for a month or so, and at some point came up with Kill City, which is kind of derived from the name of our city, which is Guayaquil (which sounds like Why Ah Kill). Everybody liked it, it had some meaning and it was easy to say.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s the influence for most of us. We all listen to all kinds of music, I think you have to do that to get educated. But we`ve been in bands for more than 20 years and since the beginning we’ve always played some type of Rock. I guess since we were all born around the 80s, it might have something to do with it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Luis and Chemel are brothers, and theyre long time friends with Xavier and Juan. Xavier, Juan and Chemel also played together. Xavier knew Andres from another project and also Andres used to play in a very popular Local Pop band called ¨Intrepidos¨, I guess thats where he got his groove as a bass player (haha).

4. Each band member favourite band?

Juan: Sentenced.

Andres: Megadeth.

Chemel: Def Leppard.

Xavier: Judas Priest.

Luis: Queen.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Usually one of the guys brings a piece of a song, or an idea, although sometimes a whole song might be done from jamming. We first do the music, singing anything that sounds good over it. When all the music and structure is done, then we put in a lyric. Everyone chips in.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our first album was basically written during the pandemic, so no live shows yet as Kill City… We had a couple of international invitations, one to Mexico and one to a festival in the USA ; but everything got cancelled. So we have been concentrating on making new music, until things are back to normal.

7. Where would you like to act?

We love playing live anywhere, in previous bands we did so locally and also abroad. We haven´t been to Europe yet so that would be awesome. Wacken would be lovely someday !

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We love so many bands ! And we’ve been featured in concerts and produced music with some of them before on previous projects (featured live in Ecuador with Judas, Edguy, UDO) and also produced with Tolkki and Kai Hansen. At this point in time, I think to be featured with the current Helloween lineup would be amazing.

9. Whom not?

With all the pandemic shit, we usually don’t even think about that hahaha. Right now, just to be able to play live again, would be cool.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think everybody has some kind of stage freight at the beginning. Most great musicians learn with time, thousands of hours learning and shows. My recommendation to begginers, would be to just look straight ahead at the audience and picture it as a whole ¨thing¨.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Helloween, ACDC, Journey, Guns and Roses, Megadeth, KISS.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

It’s not thaaat weird, but at once a fan asked for anything and I handed out an old dirty T-Shirt.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are really happy and proud with the feedback we have received from fans everywhere, other than ecuador, especially in Mexico. Hopefully we’ll be able to see them all soon.

14. What do you think of our site?

Really cool ! Nice to see a site with new Rock music, interviews and all kinds of info.

15. Something add?

Thanks once again for sharing our music and hello to all your readers around the globe !
