Interviews: Underball

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Hardcore band, Underball from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Originally the name of the band was supposed to be “Sottopalla", a dialect word that corresponds to your "ballocks" (coming to our concerts you will understand why); then we decided for a more international name that didn't suck like "ballocks", and here it is: poke out like the penis from boxers the name "Underball"

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Actually, it was all very spontaneous; we all come from different genres. We knew we wanted to do thrash metal but while we were composing the songs our musical backgrounds influenced all the arrangements. There is death metal, rock n roll, country, blues, hardcore, but in the end it's all pretty homogeneous and thrash metal is the glue (like that thing that pastes the pages of porn magazines!).

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we’ve know each other for several years. We all play in very active bands in the Italian underground’s scene; then over the years we became friends and one day we decided to form this band. The funny thing is that in the beginning it was supposed to be a stoner band. Then wine and bad decisions (but above all Pekkia's compulsive shredding) ruined everything...

4. Each band member favourite band?

John Von Lovers: Torment

Pekkia: Iron Maiden

Zorro: AC/DC

Motoreddu: Megadeath

Sex Lex: Cristina D'Avena

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Barren love is at the origin of these songs. Fornication, the heavy one, the distortion of the senses. All songs that are born in certain two-star hotels next to the station; moments of squalor and misery that become work. Stories taken from the street, but no those during the day, the street at night. Some avenues of Rome that you all surely know. And there it begins.

6. Where was your last gig?

Obviously, due to the covid all live activities, especially those outside our city, have been stopped for quite a while. We have recently resumed the live shows, all in Rome and surroundings, but we are already working to organize the first tour of 2021. Last gig was May 29th in Rome.

7. Where would you like to act?

Of course, we would like to play in some big festivals. A Super Bowl halftime show might be fine too.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Hard question, the list could be very long. It would be interesting to do something strange. Probably with Little Big.

9. Whom not?

Without any doubt: "The Killers"... shitty band.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Surely not. Real-life is certainly scarier, with all those sidewalks and all those pineapple pizzas. The best advice we can give is: if you can suck enough in real life (as we currently do) then stage fright will be the least of your problems!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As we said before, we all come from different genres, so it's a little hard to say who inspired us the most.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

They asked us not to spit in the front row. It's a weird thing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They must be really disturbed people with a really bad music taste. However, they are nice people when they are sober.

14. What do you think of our site?

Sites like yours are a lighthouse that illuminates the dark gallery of the record industry that wants everything homologated.

15. Something to add?

Life is like a box of chocolates: if you eat them all you get diarrhea. You can try with a lemon, but if you take it out of your asshole then it starts again. CIAO!!!
