Interviews: Ventura La Muerte

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Punk Rock band, Ventura La Muerte from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Well, originally we were called just Ventura, but we found out that there were other punk bands with the same name so we changed it to VenturaLaMuerte which has to do with being joyous and triumphant even in death, which is everybody’s final destiny and what makes our lives meaningful...

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Well, we couldn't play any other thing even if we wanted to :) We’ve all been involved in hardcore and punk rock bands all our lives, it’s our thing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

3-Me (Sergio and Emma, the drummer did know each other from before, from the Madrid hardcore scene, but I didn't know Pascal (the drummer), he’s from Switzerland, and we contacted through Facebook during the lockdown.

4. Each band member favourite band?

I cant talk on behalf of the others, but me, I cant mention one single favourite band, there are far too many great artists out there to pick just one.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I write the songs and the lyrics and take them to our practice space where we shape the songs together. I'm inspired by life basically, not much political stuff nowadays, but more personal lyrics, dealing mainly with human nature, but not only.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven't played live yet, we formed during the lockdown, so our first practice together was a year ago in June, we can't wait to play everywhere that we can.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well, as I’ve said,  everywhere that we can, with our previous bands we’ve played pretty much everywhere in Spain, so we can't wait to visit all those places again with this band and show our music to friends and people from other cities. Apart from that, we’re planning a European tour for next spring/summer.     8-

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If you mean a collaboration, Dulce from Vandida and us will be doing something together soon hopefully, and if you refer to sharing a gig, any band thats passionate and honest as we are about this music would be great to play with. If you ask for some name we would love to play with, I won't say names because there's too many of them.

9. Whom not?

Basically, we wouldn't want to be associated with any band or individual with fascist, homophobic or racist ideas. Aside from that, none of us is perfect.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Again, I can't speak for the rest, but personally, the first time ever that I played in front of an audience I was not terrified but very very nervous, I was 16 I think, it's normal. Anyway, what I still feel is that restlessness before coming out to the stage, which I think is very positive, it keeps you alert, in positive tension, aside from that I never had problems performing For people who suffer stage freight, well, I’m no expert but I would tell them to remember that we play punk or hardcore, we do this for ourselves, for the fun, even if we go public and share, but these scenes shouldn't be for judgemental people, if they are, fuck’em all, remember that “The wolf doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of the sheep”.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Uffff, a huge ton of them, but from Black Flag, Minor Threat, Adolescents, the usual, to Wire, Jawbreaker, Los Planetas (best Spanish band ever, a personal favorite, I don't care what punk rockers say), Iron Chic, Pegboy, Off With Their Heads, I don't know, the list goes on and on.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well, not with Ventura, and it wasn't something that a fan asked me for, but once a girl painted a portrait of me after playing , oil on canvas, and wrote me saying she was going to come to Madrid to visit me….crazy shit man :)

13. What do you think of your fans?

In the case that we have fans (which could be argued :) I think its amazing, an honor and very humbling when anyone listens to our music and thinks it's good and even makes the effort of writing us to tell us so, that means the world to us, so we feel thankful.

14. What do you think of our site?

I have checked out your site and it has surprised me how good it is, super professional, there’s a lot of work there, there’s passion and love for the music and the bands, so I think it's awesome that you’re doing it and helping so many bands from all over the world, THANK YOU !!!

15. Something to add?

We´ll be playing a venue next to you all as soon as we’re allowed to, we’d love to see you there!!!!
