Interviews: King Of The Dead

We have had the opportunity to interview the  Horror Rock band King Of The Dead from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I am The Familiar, the mouthpiece for King of the Dead. The name King of the Dead is a reference to the central figure in the story that the band is telling, through music and an upcoming comic book.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

King of the Dead are playing the only kind of music they know. The music that excites them is cinematic and energetic. The band appreciates artists that take the audience beyond the music and create an experience.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The members of the band have known each other across planes of existence for millennia. They are cursed souls who are intertwined through the fabric of time. The band manifested when two realities met. I, The Familiar, hear their voices and communicate on their behalf.

4. Each band member favourite band?

King of the Dead collectively have one favourite band; KISS. They are a fan of the breadth of music they made and also that they are one of the original theatrical rock bands. They are also possibly the only rock band to have released legitimately excellent disco tracks. King of the Dead approves of music that you can dance to.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The music is written around a story that the band is telling. The songs cover the themes of possession, sacrifice and desperation. King of the Dead get inspiration from horror films, comic books and amusing videos of animals on Tiktok.

6. Where was your last gig?

King of the Dead manifested during the global pandemic, so are yet to appear physically. The spirits have chosen to control puppets that last played in 2019 at Download, Glastonbury and other large UK festivals.

7. Where would you like to play?

King of the Dead will play in front of any audience receptive to the dark arts. Collectively, the vessels that the spirits currently inhabit have played on almost every big stage across the world. The band thrive on large crowds. It is here that they will be able to create a collision of realities through the recital of their heretic hymns.

 8. Who would you like to support?

A support slot for a truly goliath band, like Metallica or Iron Maiden, would best fit the will of King of the Dead.

9. Who not?

King of the Dead would believe that music is music, so are willing to play on any bill with other good artists. However, their advocacy of dark arts may mean they do not fit with all artists.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

King of the dead don’t suffer from stage fright as they are the embodiment of fear. They do advise though that you shouldn’t feel frightened. If you’ve done the work to get on the stage, you deserve to be there, recognise stage fright as excitement and let it fuel your performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

King of the Dead are most inspired by bands with a strong identity. They collectively love theatrical rock bands like KISS, Seikima-II and Ghost for this reason. They also are inspired by punk rock bands such as Alkaline Trio, At The Drive-in and Misfits.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Fans have asked for salvation by bartering with their soul, unfortunately King of the Dead only offers eternal torment. They much prefer requests that they are able to fulfil, like giving away plectrums or drum sticks.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are a group of kindred spirits, without them King of the Dead would not exist in the physical realm. They have each received the favour and approval of ancient forces that reside in a place beyond explanation. The most valuable thing a person has is time so any soul that spends this by listening to our music and interacting with us is very much appreciated.

14. What do you think of our site?

King of the Dead approves of Breathing The Core. They are particularly impressed with the breadth of artists you cover.

15. Something to add?

The debut King of the Dead EP, The Summoning, is released on 1st October. This release is accompanied by a comic book that tells the events that take place in the EP. Find us on Instagram and Facebook for further eternal damnation.
