Interviews: LUNARSEA

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Melodic Death Metal band LUNARSEA from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We are big fans of space and lunar missions. We know basically all astronauts that took part in Mercury, Gemini, Apollo missions as well as the Soviet cosmonauts. Lunarsea is a tribute to our passion for that.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

At beginning we were a power metal band, with prog influences. Time after time, our musical taste changed, not so much regarding instrumental, but mostly about vocals. We were tired of clean vocals, so we start this band trying to mix power/prog elements with harsh vocal, cutting out clean vocals as much as we can.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Only two of us were friends before the band was formed. All the others (we had about 11 ex-former members) has been chose overtime during our 17 years career.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Fabiano: Dream Theater-In flames-Steve Vai

Alessandro: Moonspell-Tiamat-Dark Tranquillity

Leonardo: Children of Bodom-Soilwork-Tiamat

Erika: Helloween and again and again Helloween

Andrea: Orphaned Land-Leprous-Iron Maiden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We start by writing riffs, tons of riffs, then slowly we start to put them together and build the songs. Our writing process is very slow, we don't have pressure at all, we're not a major band, so since it's only a hobby and passion, we took our time to deliver new music.

6. Where was your last gig?

A few days ago in Rome @ Traffic live club. Our last show before pandemic lockdown was at the same club, so we thought it was a good idea to start again the live activities from the same club. There were more peoples few days ago instead of our last gig on 2020, means that everyone wants to come back to normality, and want to have fun.

7. Where would you like to act?

We have never been to the U.S.A. That is probably one of our dreams in near future. We're so underground that can't afford a tour in the U.S.A. The only way could be to be an opening act for a well known band. Let's see if we have luck in the future.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Bjorn "speed" Strid from Soilwork Anders Frieden from in flames

9. Whom not?

Uh, we can't say this, we don't want enemies.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really, we like to perform in front of people. Never suffered stage fright. Mostly is anxiety that something tecnhical can go wrong on stage. During years, we noticed that fans like the entire performance of all of us, so we are not focused too much on every single instrument. We are not trying to do everything right, every note perfect at 100%. We are not trying to reach the perfection on stage. The entire mood is what matter, people like to see on stage musicians that makes also some show instead of not moving, with their head down on their instrument for all the time.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Sentenced, In flames, Soilwork

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

On a U.K. gig, a guy asks me (Fabiano) to sign his arm, so he could make a tattoo with my sign later one. Dunno if he really does, but probably not, cause he was so drunk that was likely a joke instead of a real request ahahah.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Very loyal, very addicted, always ready to support us and share the news.

14. What do you think of our site?

Well done, minimal, clear, easy to find sections, and well written and updated. I'm sure you do it for passion and not for money return, so, congratulations! Hope all the best

15. Something to add?

Follow us on stage, we have very good opportunities for 2022, but we can anticipate them. And....on 2023 lunarsea made them 20 years birthday. Very exciting news coming on that year! Cheers and thanks!
