Interviews: THY ROW

We have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band THY ROW from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Thy Row. We wanted it to sound good, look good and have some deeper meanings as well. For me, the name stands for battles you’re facing in your life. Thy Row, your battle.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Playing metal with big melodies feels natural for us. Bringing it with power is just great.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Jussi and I knew each other. We’ve known each other since we were teenagers.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We have so many favourites that we can’t pick one! Here are some of our favourites:

Jussi: Queen, Aerosmith, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Oceanhoarse

Juho: Iron Maiden, Stratovarius, Marillion, Symphony X and Ayreon

Mikael: Anthem, Ayreon, Galneryus, Iron Maiden and Symphony X

Ville: My passion for guitar riffs comes from Pantera, GnR, Megadeth etc.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I just start to play whatever feels good at the moment or do my daily finger practices. Sometimes something cool just comes up.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in the legendary rock club Torvi in Lahti. It was just before they closed down all the venues and bars. Everybody was feeling uncertain about it. We had disinfectant and toilet paper on stage to share with the crowd.

7. Where would you like to act?

Now it feels like anywhere but let’s say a big rock festival would do great.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have had the opportunity to perform with the most amazing and nicest artists. Of course, there is always room for a few rotten apples now and then. I wish we could perform with artists who respect each other and also want to have fun with us.

9. Whom not?

Bands not sharing a passion and respect for music and other artists.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes. Usually, Jussi starts vomiting 30 minutes before the show. The good thing about stage fright is that you leave your comfort zone. That’s always a good thing. The more you do it the more your comfort zone will grow. Face it and rock it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mostly bands from the 80’s and 90’s. Metallica, Megadeth, Queen, Scorpions, Pantera, GnR, Nirvana, Bon Jovi.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I haven’t got any weird suggestions but for our bass player Juho, one Japanese fan asked him to grow long hair. And look at him now!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Only positive. Nowadays fans come and go so maybe building a long-lasting fanbase is what we are trying to achieve.

14. What do you think of our site?

We definitely need more sites like this. Sites for new bands are always welcome.

15. Something to add?

Go and check our music video Road Goes On on Youtube. The next single will be out on July 23rd and it’s called “Horizons”.
