Interviews: BOOZEWA

We have had the opportunity to interview the Noise Rock/Sludge Metal/Grunge band BOOZEWA from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was sort of an inside joke. We started calling each other Bourgeois at inappropriate times when it wasn’t called for at all and then it kind of slurred its way into BOOZEWA. 2020 lockdown involved a LOT of drinks lol

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I have never thought about creating within a genre, whether solo or in a band. The three of us got together and started playing and this is just what came out naturally. I suppose it is a product of the stuff we all listen to or grew up listening to.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

Oh yea. We have known each other for the better part of the last 21 years

4. Each band member favourite band?

It changes a bit depending on mood but I think our three go-to bands would be 

Mike – Pearl Jam

Jessica – Big Business

Rylan – Modest Mouse

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It can be anything from something I read, to something I misunderstand or mishear, to dreams. I liken it to a wave, and when it comes I just have to ride it and see where I end up.

6. Where was your last gig? 

Our last show was actually our first show... It was a house show at the studio down the street from us. Total DIY loud like we love it.

7. Where would you like to act? 

I can't wait to get BOOZEWA on the road proper whenever it is feasible to do so. Stateside and Europe. Our other band BACKWOODS PAYBACK is/was a touring machine and we were always on the road all over the world. Im stoked to get BOOZEWA up and running the same.

8. Whom would you like to feature with? 

I think we would all love to jam with Big Business or Viagra Boys.

9. Whom not? 

As long as you’re good people I think we would jam with anyone, any band, any genre

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I honestly have never had stage fright. I know that’s hard to believe but it's true. It's really one of the only places that feel completely natural to me.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Drive wise Black Flag. They pretty much made the roads we drive down as a DIY band now.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

I went through a period of time where everyone wanted to touch my beard. Maybe not a lot of people were growing them back then? Beats me….that always seemed odd to me.

13. What do you think of your fans? 

I’m not sure I have ever thought of a group of folks that way. People that vibe feel more like friends to me.

14. What do you think of our site? 

I haven’t checked it out yet, but I'm heading over now lol. I was stoked that you wanted to chat and that you dig the record!

15. Something to add?

Our brand new 7inch DEB is out now. Only 200 copies were pressed and it was mastered by the legendary TAD DOYLE (TAD, Witch Ape Studios, Sub Pop Records). The video that goes along with the record is up and streaming on youtube now as well. We couldn’t be more proud of this band and this record and video. I hope folks will check it out and dig!
