Interviews: Impact Approved

We have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Impact Approved from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It came out just like that. It was written on a container. Simple as that. It means that you can transport dangerous goods in it. Just like our music, there is dangerous and explosive content in our lyrics that may harm you, if you are not treating it with caution. Also, it’s not the typical death metal name and this makes it more unique and recognizable.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We play it because we want to play it. We love it because it is the same genre which we are listening to in privacy. When we do the writing and arrangement process the music sounds exactly the way we want it, ‘cause our souls and passion are represented by the music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, actually Moe and Uwe are best friends for over 30 years now. Almost like brothers. They started at the age of 14 in a school band. Phil and Uwe got to know each other in 2012 when Phil joined a band Uwe was already playing in. Armin and Moe played in another band as well before IMPACT APPROVED.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Uwe: AS I LAY DYING, AMON AMARTH, PANTERA, METALLICA, KORN

Moe: MACHINE HEAD, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, IRON MAIDEN

Armin: SLIPKNOT, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, BURY TOMORROW, and many more...

Phil: (old) IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY (In fact I was on stage at a DT concert in 2010 in Frankfurt where I found myself very drunk next to Mikael Stanne, because of an epic crowd- surfing. I was allowed to sing the chorus of “Monocromatic Stains” and I was amazed.)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Actually, Uwe is doing 90% of the songwriting, Phil is doing the lyrics and Moe is doing the arrangements. In Uwe's head is always music, beats and rhythm which he is recording in his own music studio. Phils lyrics are inspired by historical events, personal struggles and dystopian novels, like “1984” and “ANIMAL FARM”.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig was also the first gig for IMPACT APPROVED, because the band was founded at the beginning of the pandemic. So we had no chance to play live. Our first gig was in Bavaria in the south of Germany at a private festival and it was such fun to play our music live for the first time.

7. Where would you like to act?

For us, it doesn’t matter. It does not matter if there are 10, 100 or 10.000 people in the crowd, as long as there is at least one guy in the audience, jumping, screaming and having a good time. Then we know that we are doing something right. It is all about fun. But honestly spoken, it would be a pleasure to play at a huge festival like WACKEN Open Air or something similar.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Every musician who shares our passion for music. And HEAVEN SHALL BURN and CALIBAN.

9. Whom not?

Helene Fischer, Kanye West, K-Pop artists and Scorpions.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Have fun and enjoy it. In our opinion you can’t call it stage fright, it is just the joy of expressing your music. And as a tip for beginners: Keep practicing, be safe with what you can do and just do it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Uwe: (old) IN FLAMES, AS I LAY DYING, AMON AMARTH

Moe: PANTERA (Rex Brown), METALLICA (Jason Newsted only), AS I LAY DYING

Armin: SLIPKNOT

Phil: (old) IN FLAMES, AS I LAY DYING, DARK TRANQUILITY, PARKWAY DRIVE, OPETH, BLOODBATH

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

“Can I get your shoes?” “Do you want to have a night you won’t forget??” actually I was so drunk, I can’t remember

13. What do you think of your fans?

They have an excellent taste of music.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is always great to have a site like yours which supports musicians and people who are creating music. You give them the chance to be heard and recognized. And this must be respected. Thank you.

15. Something to add?

Listen to music, go to live shows and enjoy your lives. Follow IMPACT APPROVED into the fray.
