Interviews: SINSHRIFT

We have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band SINSHRIFT from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Trenton: We just kind of stumbled upon it, honestly. The name sounded cool and we kind of rolled with it! The dichotomy of sin and shrift is interesting though, and when you search our name on Google, it’s the only thing that comes up, so that’s a plus!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Trenton: I like all sorts of genres of music, but heavy music creatively charges me, I absolutely love it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Trenton: We knew one another in school, we played some gigs, took some breaks here and there due to personal reasons, member changes, etc…until a few years ago, we made a conscious decision to take things seriously and make it a career.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Trenton: Aerosmith

Lee: Slipknot

John: Rush

David: As I Lay Dying

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Trenton: Life’s struggles, and also the great times in life, really anything can inspire me to write.

John: I’ve always been inspired by bands like Pink Floyd that had intense emotional guitar riffs, solos , and melodies that make you feel. After learning a few chords, I found that I could release my inner workings through the writing of my own. By letting my hands translate what my tongue couldn’t, I found a therapy that actually worked.

David: You have to get the ideas out! Typically I hear something in my head or I’m playing something on guitar and I just gotta keep going until it all comes together into a full song. I wanted to create music that I enjoy and that others can enjoy too. The best part is when other people dig what you’ve created! Lee: I just hit stuff and hope it sounds good! Haha!

6. Where was your last gig?

Trenton: Our last gig was in February of 2020 in Flagstaff at the Green Room (now Yucca North) just before the pandemic began.

7. Where would you like to act?

Trenton: We’d like to perform just about anywhere, give us a stage and we’ll play it!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Trenton: I would have loved to have been able to do a feature with Chester Bennington, that would have been really cool!

John: Billy Howerdel would be an absolutely incredible musician to work with. His dark dingy yet clean style has always captivated me with his notation, dynamics and pedal use. He’s one of those players that makes you feel a certain way, and does it seemingly with ease.

David: Chester Bennington, Jonathan Davis, Benjamin Burnley, or Pete Loeffler from Chevelle

Lee: Dimebag Darrel or Layne Staley

9. Whom not?

Trenton: Who would I not want to do a feature with? That’s tough to pick without coming off as rude, Haha! Maybe someone like Scatman John, I don’t believe we’d artistically mesh at all. Haha!

10. Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Trenton: I don’t suffer from stage fright, but I have fallen over into our drummer’s drum set due to some strobe lights going off in my face during a show! I basically blacked out, and woke up to Lee asking if I was ok, and the show continued from there!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Trenton: Growing up I really loved bands such as Acid Bath, Korn, The Used, Linkin Park, The Agony Scene, Misfits, I could go on...

John: Finding bands like Dead Poetic, Circa Survive, Finch, Misery Signals, and Edgewater were a game changer for me in finding my own style.

David: As I lay dying, KSE, Parkway Drive, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Architects, Disturbed… too many to list!

Lee: Slipknot, Shadows Fall, Unearth, All That Remains, God Forbid, Alter Bridge, to name just a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Trenton: It’s not them necessarily asking for anything weird, but I receive unsolicited nude photos via direct message now and again, and that’s about as weird as it gets! Haha!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans and we’re very thankful for their support! We hope you all enjoy the new album!

14. What do you think of our site?

We think the Breathing The Core is awesome, the website has a very clean look and it’s very user friendly!

15. Something you'd like to add?

Thank you for the fun questions, that was very refreshing! Thanks guys, talk soon!
