Interviews: Crusadist

We have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Death Metal/Heavy Metal band Crusadist from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name kinda just generated naturally while writing lyrics and song title ideas. It is a combination of the words Crusader and Sadist. It depicts a warrior that has grown sadistic in the face of battle.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We play what we love and we love many facets of metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Kevin, Aaron, Jason and myself were are friends and peers in the same metal scene. Luke was also from the same areas of the local metal scene in Chicago and we met him when recording our demo in 2018.

4. Each band member favourite band?

I personally love Iron Maiden and Brockie era GWAR Aaron is fond of Cannibal Corpse and The Black Dahlia Murder. Luke is a big fan of Dismember, Children of Bodom and Unleashed. Kevin has grown up loving Pantera and Deicide Jason enjoys Suffocation and Morbid Angel. Although those may be the individual preferences, we all love a lot of the same bands.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are inspired by the bands and music we all love. We gain inspiration from each other and the heart and soul comes from the battles in everyday life.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig before the Tour was in Hobart Indiana at The Hobart Art Theatre. It was our first show back in 18 months due to the pandemic shutdowns.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We have always dreamed of traveling to as many different parts of the world that we can. Europe, South America and Japan would be our top 3.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would enjoy Touring with bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide, Kataklysm, Ex Deo, The Absence and bands of the like.

9. Whom not?

We are open minded in working with those who are like minded and on the same creative wavelength. Variety and different experiences come from the individual connections and energy each entity brings with them. We are enthusiastic about new experiences and new adventures.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright comes in many forms. I think the best method is to somewhat isolate before a performance and focus on the task at hand. Do some stretching or cardio to get the blood flowing. It all helps to get out of your head and into work mode.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I have been heavily influenced by GWAR, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Immortal, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Megadeth and many more. It’s tough to condense it down because so many influence us for different reasons. We don’t strive to adapt anyone’s style, but you can definitely pick up on certain influences.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To sign their goldfish. It was wild, can’t really sign a fish, plus I didn’t want to hurt the little fella, so I signed the fish bowl instead. Apparently, the fish was a big fan of Metal!

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think our fans are very genuine and passionate about the driving force we express through our music and live performances. We love and appreciate all of them and are very humbled by any appreciation for our art.

14. What do you think of our site?

I absolutely love your site and appreciate you supporting bands and the music, helping fans stay informed and overall helping to keep the scene alive and well. Thank you for all you do!

15. Something to add?

If you are able to catch one of the shows on our tour with Inhuman Condition, you will be happy you did!!! We are very honored to be a part of the tour and the reform along side such incredible people. Hope to see everyone out there!!!
