Interviews: Religion Of Tomorrow

We have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Religion Of Tomorrow from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Rich (Bass): The name came from an early version of a band that never was, with only Jordan (Guitar) remaining we considered changing this but we decided to take on an idea behind the name, It can appear very pretentious (no we are not bigger than Jesus) but its actually about peoples obsession with materialism and more so; tech/social media etc hence the ‘religion of tomorrow’?

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Karl (Vocals/Guitar): I’m not sure we have a genre and have had to drop down to just rock, people say “you sound like errrmm” “you are kind of a bit...erm” it’s very difficult to pigeon hole us and no two songs sound alike, why do we want to play this genre? We don’t?

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Rich: Like I said before Jordan is the only surviving member of a previous incarnation, he knew Karl and I knew and worked with Karl, Sam (Drums) is the newest member though he’s been in the band a couple of years now, we luckily found him locally via social media.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Rich: Probably the most hated of all questions, people always wanna sound eclectic or not say at all, main reason I don’t like answering is because I don’t really know? so I’m just gonna say Tool, no Deftones.......erm no Tool. See!!! Pearl Jam..no!...Tool!

Karl: Nothing More! going with what’s got my attention at the moment!

Jordan: Sabbath for me!

Sam: Madness

Rich: Really?!!

Sam: Yep...Madness!!!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Jordan: We aren’t prolific writers, I think this comes due to the difficulties we’ve had over the years but we are getting better on frequency, it usually starts in the rehearsal room (usually recorded on a phone so we don’t forget) with an idea and once the song is complete you look back at how it started, the difference is incredible. Karl takes away these ideas and works on the vocals in his car while driving or on headphones at work and in the end we have a song. So not quite inspires more forces us to write songs lol

6. Where was your last gig?

Sam: Last Friday!! (03/09/21) we ended up headlining a large venue in our home town that has seen acts like Snow Patrol/The Zutons/Gomez/Ocean Colour Scene play over the years so quite a size, not something we planned to do but the headline band had to pull out with Covid symptoms (luckily negative) but we stayed on the bill added a support act and went for it, was a decent night and good to get back on the stage.

7. Where would you like to play?

Rich: Nowhere in particular venue wise but it would be good to get enough momentum to play exclusively to our fans again, we have done it on a small scale locally but would be good to get into a big venue with a great sound and proper take over!

Karl: Festivals we would love to do some of the larger festivals!

8. Who would you like to support?

Karl: Anyone who will have us (lol), we’d love to do an extensive tour, the nearest we came to this fell apart once to tour the USA and another losing a drummer which almost ended the band, I think for us all, to play download would be the ultimate!!

9. Who not?

Rich: Rockstar’s, we’ve experienced a few... hissy fits over dressing rooms, riders, the works. Most people are pretty cool but some just wanna be a***holes beyond their status!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Jordan: No I don’t believe any of us have, we have all had the similar nightmare where you appear at the biggest festival in the world and get on stage and the rest of the band start playing covers you don’t know or you just can’t remember any of the songs, at least we still have our clothes on in the dreams!!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Rich: I’ve seen some incredible bands with their original line ups, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden for a few, I've always wanted to be in a band since I seriously got into guitar music but never seemed possible, so I think I’d have to say Pearl Jam going from seeing them and meeting them at the cat house in Glasgow to next year seeing them at Hyde Park that one hell of career!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Rich: An autograph or a photo, never get used to it, I always think ???? Why?

13. What do you think of your fans?

Sam: We love 'em, we don’t get to meet them enough especially due to this pandemic but we have fans all over the world and when someone gets in touch from the states or India it’s pretty special and shows we are getting our music out there.

14. What do you think of our site?

Rich: It’s a great site, to be honest you forget about websites these day due to socials so this question prompted me to go look, but the site looks great and I spent a while checking a few acts out.

15. Something to add?

The new single ‘United We Fall’ hits Oct 1st and our next shows are 18th Sept @ The Tractor Head Brewery, Workington and 13th Nov The Solway Hall Whitehaven. Thanks for taking time to quiz us!!!
