Interviews: King Fabbs

We have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk artist King Fabbs from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

King Fabbs is a nickname I had picked up for a short period of time when I was in grade 10, then I started using it as my Instagram name in 2017. When I decided I wanted to start a journey as a solo artist it just felt like the perfect name to use!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

As soon as I fell in love with rock music I wanted to start playing guitar. I got my first guitar for christmas in 2007 and I was just having so much fun learning so many different songs from bands like Green Day, Linkin Park, Paramore, the list goes on! I noticed I've always been drawn to Pop Punk music though. I love the style, I like how it all sounds, and for me it was always the most fun to play. When I started experimenting with writing my own music a long time ago, I always ended up writing music that was Pop punk. It’s what feels most natural to me and I simply just love the genre so much!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The only person that performs with me is my good friend and producer Brennan Kennedy. We’ve known each other since 2015. When I first met Brennan I didn’t even know he was a producer for almost a whole year. But once I realized it I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. We started bonding over our similar interest in music and then in 2020 when I decided I wanted to “go solo” I know he was the perfect person to go too. He is incredibly talented and I cannot do what I do without him. He brings my music to life and makes me sound amazing.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Having one favourite band is too hard for me haha. All Time Low, Slipknot, State Champs, and Green Day are my favourite bands of all time! As for Brennan, I can’t remember if this is his number one, but he is a big fan of The Band CAMINO.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I’m inspired by lots of different music artists. But I also write a lot about my life experiences or things we experience as humans. My whole life I have struggled to talk about what’s on my mind. I still struggle with that today. Expressing my emotions is tough for me, but when I write music it feels like a very good way to express how I feel.

6. Where was your last gig?

My last gig was at a venue called ContainR located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Calgary is where I was born and raised and I’ve lived here my whole life!

7. Where would you like to perform?

Everywhere. I wanna perform everywhere. I want to tour the world and play in every city that I am able too! Every concert venue, arena, festival, dirty bar, your grandmother's house, abandoned swimming pool, area 51, I want to perform everywhere!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

There are a ton of bands/artists that I would to perform with. There’s too many to name but to name a couple: Mariana’s Trench, Seaway, All Time Low, State Champs, Paramore, Neck Deep, Broadside, A Day to Remember, Hot Milk, Stand Atlantic, Green Day, Foo Fighters, 5SOS, Alessia Cara, BTS, Grayscale, Down with Webster, the cast of Wild n out haha, and many more!!

9. Whom not?

Anyone who pours there milk before the cereal.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I have suffered from stage fright before but nothing crazy happened thankfully. My way to avoid stage fright is to literally NOT think about the show before you go on. I find if you are thinking about it too much then you start to get in your head. So before is about to start I think about anything that isn’t my setlist. Also, making sure I’m breathing through my nose helps.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I already named these bands in some of the previous questions haha, but I’ll name them again! Slipknot, All Time Low, State Champs, and Green Day have inspired me the most. Green Day is the band that introduced me to punk rock and the rock music scene in general. These four groups will always have a special place in my heart. I love the writing styles from these groups, the lyrics, the live shows, the connection they have with their fans, I love all of it!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Honestly, I have not been asked any weird questions yet. I’m still sort of just getting my journey started. But I am looking forward to all of the crazy and weird questions!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are beautiful, they are royalty, they are family, and I hope they get everything that they’ve ever wanted in this lifetime!

14. What do you think of our site?

I love it! The website looks sharp and I love how you guys are representing so many bands on there. It’s a beautiful community.

15. Something to add?

No number from 1 to 999 includes the letter “a” in it’s word form.
