Interviews: Kids Play Dead

We have had the opportunity to interview the Punk Rock/Punk band Kids Play Dead from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

Turco: Artemio won the election. F.Y.P forever!

Artemio: It’s a rip off from an F.Y.P song. “Kids Play Dead” sounds punk enough and also has that poetic imagery.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

T: When I was 15 a drummer was needed in a 3-piece attic pure noise project bangin’ bands like Operation Ivy, Bad Religion, etc. I was down for the imperfection. Out of no skills something beautiful grew. That’s punk rock. Anyone can get on the stage.

A: There hasn’t ever been any other option.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

T: Yes. As I recall it – I was standing in line in order to get a burger somewhere when the guy at the counter (Artemio) recognized me - wearing an FYP shirt - and asked me to come up to the front. NICE MOVE! We realized soon after that encounter that we had a common taste in special catchy punk music. Paddy fortunately joined us lately after breaking his nose a couple of years back at one of our shows. Sick!

4. Each band member favourite band?

T: There’s way too many. When it comes down to the most important one - NoFX.

A: NOFX.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

A: Reading is a great source of inspiration for me. Although sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

T: If so, LIFE.

6. Where was your last gig?

T: KINDA way too long in the past. PANDEMIC.

A: It took place at an open-air skate park in our hometown, fuckin’ Freiburg.

7. Where would you like to act?

T: In a movie? TRUE ROMANCE.

A: Anywhere possible. Getting out of our boring town and playing a show is always cool. A tour through Europe would be great. If you read this, please invite us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A: The young GG Allin from the Jabbers-era. Or Waldo, the parrot from Hatebeak.

T: TODD C. from F.Y.P.

9. Whom not?

T: NAZI FUCKS.

A: Plus, any sexist, racist or homophobic individual. People who oppose vaccinations should also stay away from us.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

T: 100%. I kinda stick to myself more, warm up and have a beer, or two. Alcohol can be a good friend. Bottle of hope.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

T: NOFX, Bad Religion, Sublime, Jimmy Eat World, Life of Agony, SOIA, F.Y.P and Propagandhi for sure!

A: Too many to mention; from old school Fat Wreck sound to Ramones-pop punk and also way beyond. To add some names to those that Turco already mentioned: Satanic Surfers, Toys That Kill, The High Hats, The Bananas, F.A.N.T.A. And the RAMONES, of course.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

T: Nothing weird I can recall.

13. What do you think of your fans?

T: We have any? I’d not call the people that dig some of our songs fans really.

14. What do you think of our site?

A: It’s great to see what people like you do to keep underground music alive. Your site is made up nicely and you can discover a lot of different bands from all over the world. Thank you for that.

T: BADASS.

15. Something to add?

A: Thank you very much for your interest and helping to spread the word about our dumb little band. Get in contact with us if you want to have a good time! Next spring, we’ll record some new songs. Keep your eyes peeled.

T: Thanks, ANARCHY FOREVER.

A: SATAN IS BOSS.
