Interviews: CRUSADE OF BARDS

This is a new interview with the Pirate Metal/Symphonic Pirate Metal band CRUSADE OF BARDS from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Well, it actually is something very meaningful to us. Our singer came up with the idea that we are “modern bards” just telling a story, and that’s the “crusade” of every bard, their objective was to portray legends. That is, we are contemporary storytellers in a world that goes too fast and where people don’t have time to sit down next to the fireplace to hear a tale about fantasy and romance. That’s why we consider our task as something primordial, hence our personal crusade.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Genre is not something that we really planned beforehand, so we cannot really explain why. It is just a mixture of what we like and what we are. It is not just a choice, but also our identity. That’s how we play, that’s how we sound, we don’t really think about the genre we want to play, it just flows. We want to surround everyone with the vibe of the stories and the feelings that they represent so that it becomes sort of cathartic.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Some of us knew each other before, but we like to think that fate brought us together somehow. Paolo (keyboardist) and Eleanor Tenebre (singer) have been together for plenty of years now, and they decided to start the band. Eduardo (vocals and growls) was introduced to us by some friends and we instantly invited him to play with us, since we wanted some powerful male vocals to contrast with Eleanor’s voice. Jorge (drummer) and Paolo were in another band together before Crusade Of Bards was started, so it was natural to invite him to join the crew. We contacted Adrián (guitar player) through a musicians’ website when we were looking for band members a long time ago. As for Marc, our bass player, Paolo and Jorge got to know him while they were touring in Germany with their previous band. He is our newest bard and has become a great fit for us.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Each bard has very defined and diverse influences, so you might be shocked by the mixture of genres and bands:

Paolo (keyboardist): Eluveitie

Captain Eleanor (vocals): Epica

Eduardo (vocals and growls): Paradise Lost

Adrián (guitar player): Avantasia

Marc (bass player): Ensiferum

Jorge (drummer): Slipknot

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

History, nature, life, feelings… Each one of us has different elements to be inspired by. However, history is one of our main muses, especially for lyrics. Our new album is completely full of historical facts, it is like a collection of tales that always come with a moral.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was the Mead and Greed Festival that took place at the beginning of September 2021 in Oberhausen, Germany. It was an amazing concert full of friendly people and wonderful bands. The audience went completely crazy with our songs, so we were really happy with the result.

7. Where would you like to act?

We are bards but also courageous sailors, so we would love to play everywhere and travel the world with our music, even if it is the tiniest island or a huge city. One of our dream gigs would be playing on a boat, but we really enjoy playing wherever we can.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We’d love to feature with many artists that are treasured for us, so the list might become endless if we were to name them. If dreams came true, we’d love to open for Ice Nine Kills as they are one the hottest bands on the spot right now and we absolutely love their music.

9. Who not?

We don’t really have an answer to this question, we think each musician is one-of-a-kind, so any artist we could feature with is welcome on board.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Some of us were already experienced when Crusade started playing gigs, but some other members were just rookies. For some of us, it was difficult at the beginning but we’ve always worked very hard on our shows and rehearsals are key to fighting stage fright. After some gigs, everyone was already comfortable on stage and ready to give their best out there.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

In the beginning, we listened all the time to bands like Epica, Powerwolf, Kamelot, Serenity or Eluveitie. We try to keep updated on new music and bands, so that’s been ever-changing throughout the years we’ve been playing with Crusade.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Recently, a fan asked for a cd in exchange for a kiss, we cannot tell you about the outcome of the deal… Also, not long ago, Eduardo (vocals and growls) was asked to sign some private parts of the human body by a fan, again, it is better to leave it to the imagination if he agreed.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We’ve only met fantastic and lovely fans in our gigs, they’ve been wondering all along, the new ones and the ones that stuck through thick and thin. When we see them jump, sing and dance we cannot hide a big smile on our faces.

14. What do you think of our site?

We appreciate a lot the coverage of your website, it is always great to have platforms like yours that allow us to spread our music and reach to many new listeners. The fabric of the community is held together by everybody working hard with their passion and we will always be grateful for that.

15. Something to add?

Thank you so much for the interview, we hope that you guys at Breathing The Core and all your readers will enjoy our new album and we really hope to meet you all somewhere down the road.
