Interviews: Fair Do's

This is a new interview with the Skate Punk band Fair Do's from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

We realized that we said it in every other sentence, it was a very localized colloquialism at the time but has since become more universal. I think it sums up our attitude.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It lets us explore writing with different styles but keep it fast and aggressive. Most bands have 4 bars of double time at the end of their songs, we just extended it into everything we do!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

John and Danny were in previous bands together, Danny and Dave met on a college music course, and we all met Willis playing gigs with his old band. We liked each other back then.

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

Danny - Intervals (at the minute)

Dave - Propagandhi

John - Palm (at the minute)

Willis - Darkest Hour & Belvedere

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Challenging ourselves to try new ideas and keep things interesting, while still delivering the emotion of the song with powerful hooks and melodies. We're working-class northerners in a Conservative country, and although we recognize the inherent privileges we are afforded, there is plenty of resentment and sting to channel into the songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Redrum in Stafford, with the excellent Grand Collapse (check them out)

7. Where would you like to perform/tour?

Canada, Australia, and Brazil are top of the list. We can't wait to go back to Japan as well!

8. Whom would you like to tour with?

I think Propagandhi is the holy grail. I would say Death By Stereo, but we did that!

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Maybe not stage fright, but definitely some healthy pre-gig nerves at times - the kind that makes you check your gear twice and do sufficient warm-ups. It's normal, use it to your advantage. Getting drunk is not the answer, we generally have a 2-pint rule before we go on stage.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Strung Out, Death By Stereo, Propagandhi, Belvedere, Sikth, The Haunted, Meshuggah, Oasis.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

John was once told by a mixed martial artist that he has good genes, followed by "are you a fighter?", and finally a handshake containing a viagra. He still has it in his wallet. At least he didn't suffer a ground and pound!

12. How do you feel about your fans?

We are forever in debt to anybody who has ever paid us any attention - huge thanks to everyone who has enjoyed our music, come to our gigs, and given us a place to crash over the years. The ship keeps on sailing but we never thought it would carry us this far!

13. Anything to add?

We've got lots of new music in the pipeline, and have been super busy putting out loads of videos alongside each single we release, please get yourselves subscribed to our YouTube channel and get notified of our activity.
