Interviews: TURBO

This is a new interview with the Metal band TURBO from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Naming a band is probably one of the hardest parts of starting a new band. We had a slew of names tossing around when we started. But after rehearsal one day, we had a brainstorming session about it, and the name "Turbo" flew out of our bassist at the time - Todd Stanley's - mouth. As soon as it did, we immediately latched onto it, and we never looked back since. We feel like Turbo is the perfect name to encapsulate our sound and workflow.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to make a band that sounded like a gateway drug to the rock and roll lifestyle. Something a bit old-school, but also a bit fresh. Something a bit more than just another metal/punk band, but still not so contrived as to group us into one specific sub-genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We've known each other from playing in other bands around the scene for years - each one of us played in a pretty heavy-hitting band from around Halifax's scene. Finding one another to play under the same banner and trajectory was nothing less than fate, we all came together with the same plan for a band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It's hard for any one of us to pick a favorite, we listen to too much different music and use absolutely everything as inspiration.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Literally everything. We want to be the kind of band that has a song for every occasion, and we never want to be one of those bands who just writes the same kind of song over and over. Normally we get to rehearsal, somebody has a catchy riff, and then we're off to the races writing. That's how everything happens in this band - super friggin quickly. When I (Evan Frizzle) write lyrics, I try to use things that are real and that we can all grab onto as subject matter, and I try not to overthink it too much. Again, everything and anything I see can be used as inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

No comment. COVID really made gigs hard to come by, though we played in New Brunswick over a year ago, and we've played a couple more exclusive parties since then.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere between underground clubs to pool parties to biker bars to large marquees. We want to be the kind of band that can fit into any situation.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Any musician who says they've never experienced stage fright is lying. The only trick to it is to get up and do your thing anyways. That kind of rush has turned into a feeling of elation which is the reason we love doing what we do so much now.

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

W.A.S.P., Motorhead, Pantera, and the Ramones are our top choices for inspiration for Turbo.

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There was one time on tour with my former band, Black Moor, where a promoter asked us to snip off some of our pubes so he could make a line out of them and snort them. To this day, the strangest thing a fan has asked me to do. But we did it!

11. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are people with excellent music taste hahaha.

12. What do you think of our site?

Really like the layout of it! You're also very kind to new up-and-coming bands, which we really appreciate!

13. Something add?

To all of our fans, thanks for sticking it out for so long with the pandemic making everything in the music industry so chaotic. To those of you just catching us for the first time now, we hope you enjoy our stuff as much as we've enjoyed making it! Follow us on social media, YouTube and Bandcamp for more!
