Interviews: My Only Solution

This is a new interview with the Alternative Rock band My Only Solution from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

It was actually one of the first names we came up with and it just seemed to stick. We originally had “The Only Solution” but then Podmore (Drummer) said we should change it to “My.”

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

There’s something about rock music that hits differently than any other music for us. It has this ability to make people feel every emotion all at once, which for us is really exciting. We try to combine the things we love about rock music with the things we love about different types of music to make this hybrid that we think is really cool.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, we all met through college in 2016.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Ryan (Vocals) - Bring Me The Horizon or Radiohead

Andrew (Bass) - Sticky Fingers

Podmore (Drums) - The Kinks

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The idea of connecting with people inspires us. Writing music is generally the best way for us to communicate our emotions and it helps to navigate what we’re feeling. Putting it into words helps give perspective.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played at Gullivers in Manchester which was cool. We’ve played there before and it’s a really nice venue.

7. Where would you like to play?

A dream venue would be somewhere like Sydney Opera House or Manchester Arena. However, we’d also love to play at the Apollo in Manchester. We’ve seen so many bands at the Apollo and Arena so those venues would be unreal to play.

8. Who would you like to support?

I think supporting Bring Me The Horizon would be a dream come true for us. Or Slipknot, although I’m not sure we’re heavy enough for that.

9. Who not?

I don’t think we’d say no to supporting anyone, the idea is to bring people into the world of heavy music so I think supporting someone you wouldn’t expect us to support would be cool.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

All the time. For anyone who wants to play live, I would just say use fear to your advantage when playing live. Usually, if you’re not afraid of absolutely everything going wrong, something will go wrong. Being afraid pushes you to do better than you think you can. That’s what it’s like for us at least.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, Nothing But Thieves and Amber Run have all had a huge impact on us as people and as a band so I would say they are considered god tier to us. We’re also inspired by a lot of electronic music too, groups like Former and Noisia have also had a huge impact on the way we approach writing.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t really had any weird encounters with anyone. Most people that come up to us at shows or festivals are really nice which is cool.

13. What do you think of your fans?

To have support from people is unbelievable to us. It’s hard to put into words how much it means when someone says that our music means something to them or had an impact on them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s cool, it’s always nice to find new music and discover new bands you haven't heard of before.

15. Something to add?
