Interviews: Anthropovore

This is a new interview with the Death Metal/Black Metal band Anthropovore from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Steph: The name Anthropovore came out quite by chance when we were searching for the name of the project. We wanted something that expressed hate and anguish, and there is no better word than « Anthropovore »’to express a human-based diet and represent what the project is.

Simon: Actually, we wanted to go by the name "Anthropocene", but the it was already taken. In the end, it's a blessing in disguise: « Anthropovore » rocks!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Steph: We really wanted to go back to something primitive, something both intrinsic and bestial. Anthropovore is basically a « stress-relief » project that we feed with all our negative emotions.

Simon: Anthropovore was born when Steph and I were going through a tough time in our lives. The project has helped us slowly get better.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Steph: Yes, because we both are in another death metal band: Muertissima.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Steph: Slayer

Simon: Electric Wizard

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Steph: Anger, hate

Simon: Frustration, existential and social anxieties, jealousy, depression... On the other hand, I would add that my girlfriends are completely responsible for the "sweet" passages that one could hear in the pieces.

6. Where was your last gig?

Steph: Since there’s only the two of us in the project, we won’t perform on stage with Anthropovore. But we do it with our death metal band Muertissima

Simon: We played at the Klub (Paris, Chatelet) on February 17, 2022 as Muertissima. It was huge!

7. Where would you like to act?

Steph: Stonehenge

Simon: In the Parisian catacombs, or other underground quarries.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Steph: Belphegor, Marduk, Mayhem, Emperor et tant d'autres

Simon: Behemoth, Dark Funeral, Hate Eternal, Immortal, ...

9. Who not?

Steph: Patrick Sébastien

Simon: Loudblast. Don’t look it up, it’s personal.

10. Have Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Steph: It happened to me before but in the end, stage fright - if well controlled - is a good thing, because it allows to really go all out. Personally, I need a good old pint of beer before and while I'm on stage to feel comfortable.

Simon: Only once, in 2005, before my very first scene with Deny Life during the Ground Zero Fest at the wasteland of Saint Ouen. As soon as I let out my first scream, the stage fright suddenly went away and never came back. The stage then became the only place where all my social anxieties disappears, and it’s almost orgasmic, even if it’s ephemeral.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Steph: In black metal: Mayhem, Marduk, Emperor, Immortal, Blut aus nord, Akhlys, Oranssi Pazuzu

Simon: Nirvana, Nasum, Catheter, Yacopsae, Marduk, Immortal pour ne citer que ceux-là. To name a few: Nirvana, Nasum, Catheter, Yacopsae, Marduk, Immortal.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Steph: Fans? What fans?

Simon: I’d rather not say, haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

Steph: We really have fans?

Simon: Imho, what is being asked here is more like "in general", not specifically for Anthropovore. If so, yes, we definitely do! Well, those people make me feel alive. I can’t think of any other word.

14. What do you think of our site?

Steph: Very cool and well presented

Simon: As a web developer, I didn’t hear about Blogger. Well, just for the inline CSS in the HTML code, I say you need a pro, like me, for a little do-over. Jokes aside, it’s pretty cool.

15. Something to add?

Steph: In Anthropovore we have a mascot that we call "the beast". A monster coming straight out of Hell to come and feed on humanity and, more accurately, your humanity. The beast can be found in the lyrics and visuals of Anthropovore but also in your nightmares!

Simon: As a matter of fact, there is. I’d like to say a huge « thank you » to all the people following us, be it from the very beginning or more recently. And some people, in particular, will recognize themselves. You give me the strength to move forward, and for that, you have my eternal gratitude. And a big thank you, who is interviewing us, to give us this opportunity.
