Interviews: InSammer

This is a new interview with the Alternative Metal band InSammer from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

InSammer: Our guitarist Dennis is a fan of Robert Heinlein. And he remembered a quote from the book that accurately described our ideas when we started this project: “But there was winter in my heart and I was looking for the door to summer. If I sound like a man with an acute case of self-pity, you are correct. There must have been well over two billion people on this planet in worse shape than I was. Nevertheless, I was looking for the Door into Summer.” The idea was InSummer but Dennis was in a hurry before our first gig and sent to the promoter our name with a misprint – InSammer. We laughed and then decided to leave it that way.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

InSammer: We are from Stockholm, Sweden, where many cool bands play alternative metal. Swedish music market is huge with many good bands like Sabaton, Meshuggah, InFlames, and others around. It’s kind of challenging to play alternative rock on this market.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

InSammer: No, we are actually strangers who gathered together to play rock. Back in time I (vocalist Vika) was looking for a guitar teacher and found Dennis. We decided to create music together because we had many common musical tastes. The very first lineup recorded InSammer first album “Numbers as Victims”. Then different musicians entered and left the band, until our second album Seeds when Oleg Izotov came to the studio to record some guitars and played a few gigs as a session guitar player. The band members liked his personality and he is still a part of the band. Then a super bass player Nikita and an awesome drummer Alex joined the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

InSammer: We all are huge fans of Korn, I like Depeche Mode, Dennis is into Meshuggah, Oleg is listening to tons of guitar music.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

InSammer: When we are looking for some creativity, I and Dennis go to a small village in the north of Sweden to catch some inspiration. The beauty of nature in this cold northern part of Scandinavia gives us ideas for many songs. Our drummer Nikita is a huge fan of flight simulators, and our guitarist Oleg is reading a lot about cosmos, stars, and astronomy. Anytime we have many ideas for new songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

InSammer: We played a gig in Turkey at some festival in 2021 and you can check a live video called What a Gift from it on our youtube channel.

7. Where would you like to perform?

InSammer: We like both venues and open-air festivals, any place where many fans are around and we feel their energy on stage.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

InSammer: Korn, definitely. Some huge festivals with many local bands with Korn and InSammer as headliners.

9. Who not?

InSammer: Although our latest album is called Black Art we still do not have our personal Black List of bands we don’t want to play with. We played many gigs and festivals with many bands around and all the time they were nice and friendly.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

InSammer: No, we like to be on stage and we are waiting for the time to go on stage and do the show. The tip is the only one – just go on stage and rock the house.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

InSammer: As we said, Korn and Meshuggah mean a lot to us. They are huge and they have a fantastic taste in music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

InSammer: We had a gig in Tallinn, Estonia and a fan asked us to sign his back. It was amazing and strange in a way.

13. What do you think of your fans?

InSammer: They are very cool and supportive. We receive many good reviews on our new album Black Art and this keeps us moving forward.

14. Something to add?

InSammer: Follow us on social networks, listen to our songs!! Rock on!!
