Interviews: Malus Dextra

This is a new interview with the Metalcore band Malus Dextra from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

We wanted something that would stand out, there are a lot of band names in America. The guitarist was the one who came up with the idea Malus Dextra (Evil Right Hand) we thought it was brilliant as many associates the left hand as being evil in relation to the biblical sense and the right hand of God is said to be the good hand, we felt it would be justified to challenge that idea.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The metal genre is home for us, it just comes naturally to us. Although we have stepped out of the normal with the release of a full acoustic EP in 2021 our home has always been in metal and hard rock.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, the guitarist and I toured together about 10 years ago in separate bands, funny story we booked that tour together over more months than I can count, that was the first time we meet. After a few years, things changed and we both ended up away from those bands, after a couple of years of being asked to come to start a new project with him I gave in and Malus Dextra was born.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Killswitch Engage, Slayer

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

A lot of our content is influenced by politics, but we have our fair share of loss, mental health, and rage tracks.

6. Where was your last gig?

St. Louis MO.

7. Where would you like to act?

Really anywhere but to be able to jump the pond and play in the UK would be awesome.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Would love to have a feature with Killswitch, Rob Zombie, Ice T, TechNine, to name a few

9. Who not?

MGK

10. Have Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright, back when I was a kid, I had a great band/chorus teacher who helped me get over that. As far as nowadays the biggest thing would be adrenaline. I feel the music in my core and sometimes it's hard to not come out fully loaded, it can get the best of you and leave you exhausted too fast. Advice would be to challenge yourself every time you are in a position to speak or address a crowd does it, the more practice you get even if it's not performing and its just talking or showing something the better you will get, be better today than you were yesterday.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Inspired, that’s a good one. In many ways there are a lot of inspirations in our music, it would be safe to say the favorites would have to inspire the purest metal that comes from Slayer to the melodics of Killswitch its all-important qualities that we have in our music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I can not recall anything super weird that a fan has asked of us, but we did have a fan who purchased one of our handmade voodoo dolls say she would sleep with it forever.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the reason we are here, they are just as much part of this pack as we are.

14. What do you think of our site?

I like it, the navigation of the site is easy, the support for the artists is strong and the music is always heavy! I even like the opinion section that says a lot about your impact on music and on artists.

15. Something to add?

We appreciated the opportunity here; we will have more new music released throughout 2022 and look forward to catching up again in the near future.
