Interviews: Surviving September

This is a new interview with the Hard Rock/Metal band Surviving September from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; did you plan it or come out just like that?

Surviving September, the name has been around for about 10 years. We formed in September and the crap we had to get through to be where we are today just made the name feel right.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This Genre is awesome. We wanted to create the music that we love. Music that is hard to find on the radio. Everything feels so plastic and homogenized these days. There is a serious lack of balls on the radio. We bring you those balls.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, we were in a project together right before we started Surviving September. It clearly didn’t work out.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Joe – Depends on the day(Mostly Brittney Spears)

Steve – Bad Religion, AFI, Thrice.

Rod – All That Remains, Megadeth, REO Speedwagon.

Mike – Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Tool.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everyday life inspires our songs. Love lost, Government, and arguing with Stupid people on the internet. Living in today’s world, there is no shortage of things to write about.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at a bar in Tampa Fl. Not the biggest show, but certainly had a lot of fun.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Where do you start with this one? Let’s start with Madison Square Garden, then a sweep of the major festivals in the US and Europe, (Rockville, SXSW, Glastonbury) and end the tour at Wembley.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

I think I can safely say we’d love to perform with Tool, Megadeth, Pearl Jam, AFI… The list goes on. We’re such big fans of music. I’d fight to play with Neal Diamond.

9. Whom not?

This is a list shorter. Much Shorter. But as an up-and-coming band, whether we like the band or not, we’re playing with them. Our focus in performing is on reaching the fans.

10. Have Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage Fright is an ever-present thing you have to deal with. It gets easier every time, but until it's gone completely, Fireball shots are the way to go.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We can appreciate the longevity and success of the bigger bands we’ve played with, but it’s the little guy that we are more inspired by. Being able to cut through the crap and get your stuff heard on the radio these days isn’t easy. Small bands that can do that are inspiring to us because it shows us that we can do it too. It’s because of these bands that were on in so many different countries.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Their underwear back. Joe has a thing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the best fans a band could ask for.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love your site. There aren’t many websites that promote and engage new bands and their music.

15. Something to add?

Check us out. Go to Survivingseptemberband.com and listen to the songs, check out our upcoming shows. There is also links to all of our social media sites as well as where to find us on the radio.
