Interviews: DEOS

This is a new interview with the Extreme Metal band DEOS from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

We were looking for a simple name to remember, referring to our music. We found a name that we liked very much but it was composed of 4 words, taking only the first letters we got D.E.O.S. We let you find these 4 words by yourselves. The one who sends us a message with the 4 right words will win our 3rd album!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We always liked extreme metal (Death, Black, and Thrash). So we decided to mix these 3 styles to create our music. We also incorporated ideas from classical and folk music into our music. As for the lyrics and themes, most of them are about Vikings, middle age, occult, etc. We wanted to be original and bring the audience into Roman antiquity.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we met at concerts before the formation of DEOS

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We can't talk about a favorite band as our influences are so multiple and varied. If we have to name some bands, we can say Motorhead, Queen, Metallica, Pantera, Pink Floyd, Kreator, Rammstein, Emperor, Death, Lamb Of God, Kataklysm, Iron Maiden, Ex Deo, Bolt Thrower, Slayer, Vivaldi, Paganini, Guano Apes...

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

All Roman history is in the broadest sense. Whether it is the characters, the battles, the conspiracies, the philosophers, the legends... But also our current world because history is an eternal restarting and many subjects of ancient Rome are always current...

6. Where was your last gig?

In Tournai in Belgium on 30/04/2022. It was the last date of our North Imperial Tour MMXXII

7. Where would you like to act?

Wherever we are wanted (laughs). We would like to play more abroad (Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia etc) as well as at Hellfest or Wacken or Graspop, etc.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

With all the groups mentioned in question 4, well those that still exist!

9. Whom not?

With arrogant, dishonest groups...

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not especially. You have to give 200% and live the moment. Some of us play a character on stage, others become fully themselves! We have to keep in mind that whatever we do we will be criticized so we might as well go all out and not care what others say!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

All those mentioned in question 4

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have never had any strange requests from our fans, the most unusual thing is a fan who asked for an autograph on her breasts

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are great, passionate, and friendly! Some have even become our friends. As we say, we are not a band, we are a legion! Because there is not only the band of 4 musicians, there is also our families, our fans, our team, it's a whole. If you take one element away, everything falls apart!

14. What do you think of our site?

We like it very much because it is complete with sections on albums, bands, emerging bands, and reviews. There is even a classification of the bands by country and it's great; we discovered bands coming from unlikely countries like Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia or Zimbabwe
