Interviews: DUCKWALK CHUCK

This is a new interview with the Rock 'N' Roll band DUCKWALK CHUCK from Norway. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, plan it, or came out just like that?

The band's name is a homage to Chuck Berry and his style of playing guitar while doing the duckwalk. Our style was more directed towards that kind of rock’n’roll to start with, but as the years went by, we took a few duckwalks towards a heavier sound. We still enjoy good ol’ rock’n’roll, though.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Growing up, I’ve always listened to rock in many shapes, such as hard rock, heavy metal, blues, rock’n’roll, and all that good stuff. It was a natural choice to go for hard rock, as we can incorporate blues and heavy influences into our tunes.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I knew three out of four other members in the original line-up. I didn’t know Håkon, who is the other remaining member from those days, hehe.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Duckwalk Chuck, of course, hehe. Apart from that, favorite bands are always hard to classify, but some influences and bands we like are Motörhead, Judas Priest, Ac/Dc, and Clutch to name a few.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songs are mostly about having a good time. Parties, fast cars, and rock’n’roll. Occasionally a tune about something else, like World On Fire from our recent album will pop its head through the mist, but in general, the songs are party tunes. We like to leave the day-to-day grind behind when going on stage. It should be an escape and a moment to unwind, both for the band and the audience.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our local venue Tribute, celebrating 20 years of Duckwalk Chuck!

7. Where would you like to act?

Where wouldn’t we? We like to play everywhere, but it ought to be in a setting fitting to our brand of music. Your local church might not be the place, but the bar down the street, however…

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Rockers, rollers, out-of-controllers, and all of their kind.

9. Whom not?

Barry Manilow is wannabes and assholes in general.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Everyone has stage fright at one time or another, and as for me, I don’t know when it kicks in. The best advice is to be well prepared, boost your confidence and own that stage. Your own confidence and attitude will reflect on the audience and the performance of the whole band. Get out there and kick ass!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Question number four kind of answers that, but I can add that being a kid and seeing videos of Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister and other bands on stage sparked a flame still burning. Growing up, I couldn’t wait to be in a band, and after some tries and fails, I ended up in Duckwalk Chuck, which has kept it going for soon 21 years.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not the weirdest following, so an autograph would be it. Not weird at all, hehe.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are GREAT! What would we be without fans? Fans encourage us to keep going, buy our albums and merch so we can afford time in the studio, and keep the flag up for rock’n’roll!

14. What do you think of our site?

Love it! I think sites like yours are crucial for underground bands. As the site is new to me, I’ll check it out some more, and definitely check bands featured here. There are many gems hidden in the treasure chest of hard rock!

15. Something to add?

Our latest album FIRED UP is out on WormHole Death on June 17th! Check it out, and pop by our Facebook/Instagram/Spotify/Youtube, and Bandcamp! You’d like what you find. All the best from Arvid Thorsen, Duckwalk Chuck!
