Interviews: Wild Horse

This is a new interview with the Blues Rock band Wild Horse from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name of the band was thought up in the car on the way back from our first ever gig. We were buzzing as the crowd loved us and gave us an encore. A few names were chucked around including Rusty Spanner and The Tool Kits, and Eric The Pug, but ultimately Wild Horse felt right. It’s from The Rolling Stones song “Wild Horses” and Neil Young’s band Crazy Horse, as both of these artists were and still are massive influences on us.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We listen to a very wide range of musical styles and genres, and so we wanted our music to be a hub for all our musical tastes. We felt this was the best way to be true to ourselves and to truly stand out. We wanted to make music that we really enjoy making, which is why we have all sorts of elements in our music including pop, rnb, funk, soul, rock, punk, dance, disco, house, hip hop, gospel, blues, country and opera.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. Jack (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keys) and Henry (bass, guitar, keys, backing vocals) are brothers so they’ve known each other quite a while. Jack and Ed (drums, backing vocals, guitar) met in primary school. There’s a funny story about that. One day their class had to do a paired reading and neither Jack or Ed had anyone to read with. Jack went over to Ed and said “I have no one to read with”, Ed said he didn’t either and asked “do you want to pair up?”, Jack said yes. Ed humorously picked Where’s Wally to read and then said “do you want to be friends?” Jack said “yeah alright” and they’ve been close friends ever since.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

That’s a really difficult question as it changes all the time. As of this moment though, Jack’s really enjoying Fleetwood Mac at the moment, Henry is listening to The Rolling Stones a lot currently, and Ed is blasting out John Mayer. But this will probably all change in a week!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life really inspires us. We try to be as honest as possible in our songs. We’ll write songs about what is going on in our lives right now or how we feel about certain things that are going on in the world currently. For example, recently we’ve been writing a lot of politically charged songs after the despicable overturning of Roe v Wade. We really just hope to relate to our listeners and provide part of the soundtrack to their lives in the hopes of showing that despite all of our differences as humans, we are actually all more similar than we probably even know.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Brighton on the Alternative Escape branch of the Great Escape Festival. It was a wonderful show, we played to a brilliant crowd who had a great time with us. It was certainly a very memorable show. We always love to play festivals!

7. Where would you like to perform?

Well, we’re quite modest with this. We’d love to perform on small stages like the headline slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, Madison Square Garden in New York, The Royal Albert Hall, basically any stadium. So yes, are plans for the future aren’t too big!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

We have this vision of performing “Wild Horses” by The Rolling Stones, with The Rolling Stones. We just think that would be the coolest thing. In our minds, it has to happen. We’re manifesting it!

9. Whom not?

To be honest, we wouldn’t really have anyone to name, but we would say anybody who is rude. We couldn’t think of anything worse than having to look like we were having a good time performing on stage with someone we didn’t actually like as a person.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Truthfully, no. None of us have ever had any form of stage fright, even at our first ever show. We just love what we do so much and are so obsessed with performing on stage that we only ever get excited. We have this insane confidence in ourselves when it comes to our music and our ability to put on a show. So our advice would be to just get to a point where you are truly confident in what you do before you go on stage. Confidence is an extremely powerful thing, use it to your advantage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are so many, far too many to name them all. But, of course, there are the classic rock bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors etc. we are also really inspired by hip hop with artists like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg really inspiring us. We love indie bands like Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks. There is such a long list but these are just a few!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our fans are amazing. I don’t think we’ve ever been “weirded out” by any request from a fan or anything like that. We are actually very humbled to have such lovely fans, because we’ve all heard of bands who have had bad experiences. But to be honest, our fans are incredible and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences with them.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re the best. We’re so lucky that these wonderful people choose to listen to our music, come to our shows, wear our merch etc. We love every interaction we get to have with them, and we’re so happy that our music has some sort of place within their lives.

14. What do you think of our site?

Awesome! A very user friendly layout. It shows clearly what you guys offer. We love what you are doing for artists like us. We are really grateful that you are giving us a platform to present ourselves and our music to the world, so thank you!

15. Something to add?

Yes, our new single “Joy Ride” is out everywhere now! It’s a summer rnb funk banger that we are totally in love with. It’s had such an incredible reaction so far and we think your readers would love it, so be sure to check it out!
